rename to Adyar, Chennai

edit

As adyar is a locality in chennai, it makes more sense than the current pagename -- PlaneMad|YakYak 13:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the {{move}} tag from the article; please see WP:RM for full instructions on moving a page. I would also question the move itself. Isn't Chennai in Tamil Nadu? Isn't the current title therefore correct? One should disambiguate by the widest term possible that discriminates. Thus, the other Adyar is at Adyar, Karnataka, not Adyar, Dakshina Kannada. --Stemonitis 14:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it should be moved to Adyar, Tamil Nadu. -- Ganeshk (talk) 20:38, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Adyar, ChennaiAdyar – Clearly the primary topic. Everything else in the disambiguation page just relates to this. Kailash29792 (talk) 05:03, 10 October 2017 (UTC) --Relisting. DrStrauss talk 07:17, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

My bad. I believed the river was called so because of where it is located. But no-one in my place (Chennai) ever calls it simply "Adyar" (unlike Ganges, Yamuna, etc. which don't need the "river" suffix). --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:13, 11 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
The river suffix is a Wikipedia invention, it shouldn't be there, I think if we need a disambiguation then it should be Adyar (river). The etymology is quite clear -- அடை + ஆறு meaning that it is a river caused by overflowing (of the Chembarambakkam Lake). This is in contrast to Cooum River where the river takes the name of the source. —SpacemanSpiff 06:54, 11 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak Oppose - although the neighbourhood does get more page views that the river, I'm not convinced it is completely primary, and the river was apparently the original entity with this name.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:16, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose – "clearly" is a lame rationale for a primarytopic grab. The river is pretty significant, too. Disambiguation is good. Nom's further explanation that "I believed this article must be moved for the same reason that" also displays ignorance of WP naming and disambuguation guidelines.
