European System of Financial Supervision

edit

I edited the article to include the new financial supervision authorities: the EBA, ESMA, EIOPA end the ESRB. I think they can be considered agencies since they are independent supervisory bodies. --Ale86tv (talk) 12:54, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It does not apply to ESRB. Micga (talk) 23:41, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Frontex

edit

EU-website states that Frontex is in fact Third Pillar Agency [1], [2]. I've reverted the change. Maartenvdbent 23:12, 20 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

error of EU-website, see: [3]. Maartenvdbent 00:07, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

But why is it there and not in the third pillar? Has somebody INformation on that? It sound rather weird to me, since it is clearly about police and judicial cooperation very much like Europol is. Derwaechter 07:58, 19 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tasks assigned to Frontex were originally in scope of the third pillar but in the Amsterdam Treaty part of this pillar (including external border controls, asylum and immigration) was moved to the first pillar โ€“ it's now in title IV of the Rome Treaty. --Filemon 10:57, 19 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Also the EU website now states it correctlyย :). Maartenvdbent 12:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Maartenvdbent! You would not have any idea where I can find the old version of the EU Websites that stated it incorrectly? Derwaechter 18:07, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

FVO

edit

Is the European Food and Veterinary Office under a a diff. name? Did it change or has it just been created? It exists and has a website (/fvo) but I though we had them all on this list. - J Logan t: 19:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

FVO is not an agency โ€”Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.71.35.143 (talk) 15:27, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Color-coded list

edit

While it's not a bad idea to color-code items on this list, it's not a good idea to rely only on the color-coding since this may not be accessible to color-blind users or those relying on screen-reading software. So the text should be written in full as well as the color-coded key. Purgatorio 16:43, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

List: add country

edit

Perhaps in the list, there should be a column for the country in which the agency is based. โ€“ Kaihsu (talk) 18:49, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The map is wrong, it's missing Hungary. (It hosts the EIT) โ€” Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.168.63.65 (talk) 18:50, 1 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Vigo symbol

edit

Hi, everyone. I'm not very experienced with editing on Wikipedia, so I wanted to make a suggestion in case someone can help. The list of decentralised agencies lists an agency in Vigo without a coat of arms / symbol for Vigo. It should be this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigo#/media/File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Vigo.svg

Thanks! โ€”ย Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.18.232.205 (talk) 19:53, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Crowded map

edit

The map of agency locations has become very crowded with labels often overlapping each other. Any ideas for improvement? Liam McM 16:48, 10 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I agree. We could do several small improvements to alleviate this a bit:
  • Pick a map that is 'zoomed in' on a smaller part, cutting away everything east of Cyprus and north of Finland and adjusting zoom level accordingly.
  • Making the map bigger. The resolution of the base map allows for this, but I don't know if this requires manual alignment of all the agencies. [EDIT: It doesn't require realignment, but the problem persists even at width > 1600.]
  • Manually moving labels away from each other and placing arrows or similar.
--Gaxtrope (talk) 10:31, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I do dislike the current map as well. First, it does not make sense to use a geographic relief map in, since this is a political and not a geographical topic. Second, I agree with Gaxtropic that the map is unnecessary large because it includes a lot of land of non-EU members such as Russia and Turkey. From the north side, it can be cropped from around Helsinki. And even at this size, it still includes overlapping text. It's probably better to only use numbers and a list beneath the map. I would suggest using File:Europe blank map.png. PhotographyEdits (talk) 18:12, 25 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

mapframeย ?

edit

Hello, wouldn't it be possible to change the way the map is displayed on mobile/smaller screenย ? It's probably doable with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Mapframe Vincent-vst๐Ÿš€ (talk) 05:31, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Map removed

edit

Screenshot demonstrating the readability issues of the oversized map on a small screen

As Vincent-vst pointed out above, the unusually oversized map next to the lead section of the article is causing serious readability issues. See the screenshot for illustration. We are hardcoding the map to be 1000 pixels, and that size can easily overwhelm smaller screens. It is also likely to be a violation of MOS:ACCESS. Additionally, even at this size, we can't prevent the text on the map from overlapping with each other (you can see some of this happening in the bottom of the screenshot), making the map itself doubly unreadable as well.

The negative impact these issues have on the readability of the article outweigh any benefit gained from including the map. For this reason, I am removing the map from the article. The map merely summarizes the same location information that you can find the tables found in the text of the article itself, so we aren't losing information. I'm not opposed to reinserting it at a later date if we can find some kind of alternative solution to make it more accessibleโ€”Vincent-vst suggested looking into Module:Mapframe above.
