                      FORMATION OF "AFTCIANS"
                             2012.
                         This term was coined to denote the technical apprentices who had undergone training at Air Force Technical College, Jalahalli West, Bangalore,India, from the I Entry commencing July,1949 to 22nd Entry that passed out in 1962 in various branches of Aeronautical Engineering.The 4 year duration in the college campus followed by their long service in various flying and maintenance establishments facilitated their bonding in to a homogeneous group with a common alma matter and shared experiences in formative years.Though all of them had retired from active service in the IAF and other civil vocations by the year 2005, the nostalgia ever remained afresh in their minds. The love and affection that bound their relationship manifested in their forming the AFTICIANS in the year 2012 by the indomitable spirit and untiring efforts of Mr.G.S.Pillai (401325) 14th Entry Radar, who by various modes of communication contacted each and every Ex-Apprentice who was traceable and compiled a draft with known addresses and contact numbers. In this challenging venture he was ably assisted by Mr.Sridhar Khare (14th Entry) and Mr.Nanda Belvalkar (22nd Entry)from Maharashtra and innumerable regional co-ordinators across India. Mr.B.J.Jayabalan (19th Entry)originally conceived this project at a casual meeting with Mr.G.S Pillai who took it upon himself to concretize the noble thought. 

                    Subsequently four Golden Re-union meetings (1962-2012) were organised at Kozhikode, Trichur, (Kerala), Chennai (T.N.) and Proladpur (Maharashtra) by the respective branches of AFTICIANS ably directed by G.N.Pillai the National Co-ordinator and the enthusiastic comrades at the respective centres in the years 2012 and 2013.Every meeting had a large attendance of members and their families of the host state to-gether with a  copious representation of Ex-Apprentics from other states with the National co-ordinator making it a point to be present at all these functions with a sizeable delegates from his state of Kerala.Since most of the members are in the age group ranging between 70 and 80 years, and more than 120 members have already demised, the longevity that this group will endure is destined to be on a sliding scale.Hence this venture is to promote the kinship between existing members who are in the evening of their lives and to place on record the dreams, struggles and successes besides the patriotic fervour exhibited by a generation of devoted youth in the service of the nation.  — Preceding unsigned comment added by Airforcebala (talk • contribs) 09:05, 31 March 2013 (UTC) 

The AFTCIANS have been pursuing with the conduct of Reunions annually at various cities of India regularly.Though a considerable number of ex-Apprentices have demised due to old age and other related ailments, the spirit of camaraderie and bonding has not depleted with time. 122.172.84.31 (talk) 13:08, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
