As discussed by @Eiga-Kevin2: if this film should be referred to by an English title, I have mixed feelings on that. I know it's going to be much easier for readers on Wikipedia to remember a film by it's literal translation title and sometimes Historians use those, but my issue is that the film was never released under that title, and by doing that, it looks like it was. I know there are rules like WP:COMMONNAME, but this is a relatively obscure film so I'd argue the few sources we find don't really regulate "commonness". I'd suggest at least creating a re-direct for that transliterated title? Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:42, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
- I see why you're troubled by the fact that it was never released under its translated title. Yes, I think titling the page Escape at Dawn is more suitable due to the rules. Also, I noticed Japanese sites such as Kinema Junpo and Eiga.com mention its English title too for some reason (maybe its also Toho's international title?). - Thanks for replying! Per Galbraith's book, which I added sources to, he goes into detail on films that have English literal translations, as well as films Japanese films having their English titles. He says if there was any release of the film in the United States, it is unclear and doesn't identify any English release title (when a film does have an English-language release, he gets relatively thorough on what they were and what the context was (released in small cycles in English, home video titles, etc.) If there is one, it remains to be found. - Thanks. I have to go by the Google Books version of the book which doesn't feature the page on this film. Eiga-Kevin2 (talk) 1:51, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- No problem, should we switch it back to the Japanese title for now and maybe add a re-direct with the English literal translation? Andrzejbanas (talk) 01:07, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
- Sorry for the late reply. Yes, that's fine with me at the mo. Eiga-Kevin2 (talk) 10:22, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
