Alaskan Malamute a danger to small child
editDon't think one person's bad experience with one aggressive dog counts as evidence they are bad with children. Removing change. Blamire (talk) 18:54, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
My daughter and son-in-law have an Alaskan Malamute dog which they have made a house dog and is not well trained. They also have a three year old child. The dog growls when the child goes near it and shows his teeth. The dog is female and they have had it for 10 years. I believe the child is in danger of this dog and it is just a matter of time before he hurts or kills the child. I have voiced my opinion to the parents that I believe the child is in danger. Please provide your thoughts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.7.226.51 (talk) 17:09, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
new user here: Can't figure out how to add a new section - looks like there's been some weird edits in the section about how they deal with small animals etc.
this section below (11/4/2010) just doesn't make sense.
"There is reason to believe that Alaskan Malamutes sometimes cope greatly with smaller animals, including other canines; however, this has been difficult to document in detail beyond observational data. It is difficult to pinpoint why many Malamute owners have observed this behavior with smaller animals, this is one of the best dogs to get, though some might speculate this is due to the Malamute's uniquely divergent ancestry, at one point cross-breeding with wolves.[1] Due to their naturally evolved beginnings, the Malamute tends to have a heightened prey drive when compared to some other breeds of dog. So while Malamutes are, as a general rule, particularly amiable around people and can be taught to tolerate other pets, it is not necessary to be mindful of them around smaller animals. They are great with kids." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.156.142 (talk) 19:28, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Temperament
editThe second paragraph is almost entirely opinion and speculation. I think it either needs to be recast more objectively or deleted. While happen to agree with a few of those opinions, that's just my opinion. While I don't want to be overly critical of the work that's been put into the article, I think the entire section and the article itself contains too much conjecture presented as fact. While I think stating breed lore and commonly-held opinion are legitimate in this type of article, they should be identified as such. Wolf4NK (talk) 00:56, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
