Heritage

edit

She is half Hispanic and half American! So why is she considered Hispanic-Italian? or Italian American? (Kyla 21:48, 7 November 2005 (UTC))Reply

Because she is half-Colombian and half-American, she is considered to be both. I think in order to have those statuses you have to be at least a quarter. :) Stephe1987 18:03, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Update: she is half-Colombian but not half-Italian. She is considered Hispanic because of her father's Colombian heritage. :) Stephe1987 22:00, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

she is half columbian and half unknown because people have falsly stated that her mother is italian but her and her family have went back five generations and they still couldnt figure out what they were. Vega seems to think that they could be french because her mother's maiden name is of french descent. --Alexusbolden (talk) 05:17, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

As the name of the image implies, this photo was from the Spy Kids movie (2001). Somebody overwrote that image, with a non-related 2005 pic. I reverted the image, and then reverted the caption text here. Anyone wishing another pic, should upload one to another file name. --Rob 19:34, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, but I think that the other picture was better than this. Ken Bruce 13:39, May 28 2006 (São Paulo, Brazil)

Can somebody change the picture it's not flattering to her, maybe you could use http://www.latina.com/files/imagecache/post-large-image/alexa_vega_engaged_0715_article.jpg[dead link] or http://www.exposay.com/celebrity-photos/alexa-vega-2007-nclr-alma-awards-arrivals-0FBzh7.jpg[spam link?] THANKS —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.244.61.240 (talk) 18:51, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Filmography

edit

I noticed that there were some roles that Alexa had played not there. These are:

"The Magnificent Seven"

I don't know how exactly to put it in the filmography section, so can someone please do it for me? --71.118.87.204 07:01, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

It would also be nice if someone could upload this picture{{deadlink . Once it's uploaded, I'll add the copyright tags and rationale. --71.118.82.100 00:24, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

trading spaces

edit

i noticed it never mentioned she was on trading spaces

Birthplace

edit

Is it confirmed that she was born in Miami? Because, I found at least one source that states otherwise. Maybe she was born in Ocala, Florida? Nineko (talk) 15:53, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

That site says her HOMETOWN is Ocala, Florida. She was BORN in Miami. Hometown is not always the same as birthplace. ;) Stephe1987 (talk) 03:06, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Alexa PenaVegaAlexa Vega – Her name change is a recent one, and with how often celebrities get divorced, might not last long. The common name is still Alex Vega. JDDJS (talk) 16:49, 29 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. More than three times the ghits for Vega when Wikipedia-related sites are excluded, [3] [4] so the move to her married name appears premature for an actress. The vast bulk of her work is still credited to Alex Vega or Alexa Vega, and it is not of course known what name will be used for future work. A redirect should be left, and that's enough for now. Alexa Vega looks to be in Start class shape. It needs slight improvement in formatting and expansion. Priority is currently at Mid- because of her multi-status as actress and singer on multiple platforms. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 04:38, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alexa VegaAlexa PenaVega – It's been 4+ years since the last RM request here, and the subject has been consistently credited (and referred to in sourcing) as "Alexa PenaVega" since 2014. Similar to, and for consistency with her husband's article – see Talk:Carlos PenaVega#Requested move 13 December 2018 – this article should now be moved to Alexa PenaVega as per WP:NAMECHANGES. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:54, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Support - Whilst her "Alexa Vega" does bring up a considerable amount of results (compared to her new name), Most sources are now using "Alexa PenaVega" so it makes sense to move, Understandably it was moved back to her old name incase all went wrong however 4 years on and she appears to still be married so easy support. –Davey2010 Merry Christmas / Happy New Year 16:17, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Names and birthdates of children

edit

Per WP:BLPNAME "The names of any immediate, former, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject." I see no reason why the names are required to understand the subject of this article.

And per WP:BLPPRIVACY we should not publish the exact birth dates of the children either. The parents may have released the information, but the privacy issue is with respect to the non-notable children. We cannot infer "that the subject does not object to the details being made public." They have not consented to the publication of their personal information, and the article is not damaged by not mentioning the exact dates. Meters (talk) 20:09, 3 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Singer as notable occupation

edit

Content of the article doesn't support singer as an occupation. She sang on soundtrack albums for projects she acted on. She has some stuff on Spotify. She hasn't charted anywhere for anything she has done. There are no secondary reliable sources that cover her singing as more than passing mentions. She is not a notable singer so shouldn't be listed as such in the article. Info was added in 2007, but isn't supported. MOS:ROLEBIO says list occupations in lead for how normally described in reliable sources. She is known as an actress, and that is pretty much it. Geraldo Perez (talk) 01:24, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Edit is still disputed. I left the other page, so we leave this as it was too since we are unable to establish a consensus. NowLaterorNever (talk) 01:31, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
More to the point, this article has almost no secondary sourcing supporting the "singer" claim, and certainly has no significant coverage of such. And, as you say, she has only sung songs on soundtracks of projects she as primarily acted in. Put another way, if you tried to write an article on PenaVega as just a singer, it would clearly fail WP:NSINGER. It is clear this article can only support "actress" being a notable profession. My edit was correct – claims of "singer" as a significant career are unsupported, and she's not notable for that. Inclusion of a 'Discography' is particularly WP:UNDUE. The "singer" stuff should be removed from the lede, etc. --IJBall (contribstalk) 02:28, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I concur with IJBall and Geraldo Perez. She's not notable as a singer. pgbrown (talk) 07:06, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
[5], [6] NowLaterorNever (talk) 15:16, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
And, again, neither of those is a valid source – one is a "webscraper", and the second is Fandom which violates WP:SELFPUBLISH. You have still failed to prove that this is not WP:UNDUE, and even finding one or two valid sources wouldn't do that. Bottom line: PenaVega is notable for being an actress only – singing is just a side-line and is not what she is broadly notable for. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:23, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yeah yeah, sure. Providing more then. [7], [8], [9], [10], [11] NowLaterorNever (talk) 15:33, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
As with the webscraper thing, how many of those are following this article (which has been wrong for 15 years)?! Far more salient are high quality sources, which only describe her as an actress, e.g. [12], [13], or [14] (notice how the latter describes Carlos as "actor and singer", but not Alexa). Mainline sources consider her an actress, not "an actress and signer". --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:46, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
IJBall is correct; none of these sources satisfy the requirements of MOS:ROLEBIO. Can you provide any sources which meet WP:MN, which I would consider a basic requirement for a description of 'singer' in the lead? pgbrown (talk) 15:58, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Of course you would call them "webscrapers" since they aren't in your best interest. Plus, all of the articles you mention talk about theatre or TV, this is not objective since when you are talking about a subject, you are obviously making a focus at the specific section (at that point, meaning the actress part). NowLaterorNever (talk) 15:59, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Putting Discorgs, Spotify and Apple Music. [15], [16], [17] NowLaterorNever (talk) 16:02, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
These still aren't satisfying WP:MN though. Can you cite some mainstream sources (as defined in WP:MN) which describe her as a singer? The fact that someone has recorded something, or has music available on streaming services does not make them a notable musician. pgbrown (talk) 16:09, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Have already cited 10. As we all know, 10>3, so I guess you are the one having to do this (if not just admitting to leave to the present version). NowLaterorNever (talk) 16:12, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
NowLaterorNever is right. We should refer to her as a singer too since most sources follow this pattern as it seems. 77.69.62.207 (talk) 16:16, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
The sources that describe her as a singer either copied their content ultimately from Wikipedia or are selling her songs. One gave the proper attribution to Wikipedia - good for them. This has been in the article for 15 years, originally as actress, occasional singer, and pianist. There is still no secondary reliable sources that cover in any amount of depth her singing, or any song she has sung. When she is mentioned as a singer, it is a passing mention with no details. Nothing she has done has charted. All her releases are basically self-published with no label. Singing is no more than hobby to her or a not very successful attempt to make some money doing this. Might merit a mention in the article that is something she does. It definitely is not a notable occupation, which is what we list in the lead and infobox. (I noticed the IP above has only made one edit to Wikipedia, the comment above) Geraldo Perez (talk) 16:39, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Note: An IP that has never posted anywhere else before shows up here in support of NowLaterorNever – this looks incredibly suspicious to me, and looks to be an example of WP:LOUTSOCK. For the record, this is an actionable offense. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:41, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have provided 10 sources, if you cannot accept facts as they are, that's not my fault, neither the support of a user that just happened to take the article under their notice (Ftr, pgbrown had also made just one more edit before starting bothering with the Alexa Vega article yesterday, should we also blame them judging from your way of thinking?) NowLaterorNever (talk) 16:50, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Likely could find more than 10 as the web does feed on itself a lot and Wikipedia is a common source of info. None of those sources rise to the level of significant coverage of her singing career or of any of her songs. Lots of stuff about her acting though, including notable credits (that they have articles is a basic indication). None of her songs have charted, no sources have reviewed any of them, no sources have gone in detail about her singing. She's not a notable singer. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:13, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
A source is a source, if you cannot prove it is feeded by Wikipedia, then it's merely not. We care solely about their sayings (since Wikipedia is relied on them and that's it). NowLaterorNever (talk) 17:19, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
No, source quality is a significant filter on what is acceptable. See WP:IRS. What we need is significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject for indications of notability in BIO articles. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:28, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
