Some vandalisation, I've looked a fair way back but cannot find where this came from. Please remove this from the International section:

Against Sweden, Sánchez played a notable game, impressively deking Mikael Nilsson with a rabona and a bicycle kick. Some media claimed that "Sánchez broke Mikael Nilsson's waist." This play alone attracted the attention of many clubs.

Alexis Sánchez (footballer)Alexis Sánchez

  • The article ought to be renamed to Alexis Sánchez only, since the athlete with the same name does not even have a Wikipedia article about himself. That way, the current Alexis Sánchez link ought to be a disambiguation title (Alexis Sánchez (disambiguation), since the footballer has a considerable higher profile and international noteability, especially thanks to taking part in the World Cup and being successful in Italy et cetera. Sanchez signed for FC Barcelona Dviduka (talk) 12:49, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

He hasn't signed for Barcelona yet... a fee has just been agreed. (Mythical Curse talk) 16:00, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sanchez signed for Barcelona yesterday (21 July 2011), both clubs announced officially the transfer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.136.37.156 (talk) 16:49, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

No he didn't, they agreed a fee, he still needs to have a medical and sign the contract, which will happen monday. Until then he is a Udinese player. Mythical Curse (talk) 16:52, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't matter, the transfer is closed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SaintJimmy94 (talkcontribs) 17:13, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

What? Ofcourse it matters! He plays for Udinese and until he completes the transfer he is still a Udinese player. Barring and hickups, he'll be a Barcelona player monday or tuesday. After that, his page can be edited to show he now plays for Barcelona. Mythical Curse (talk) 17:32, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

http://www.fcbarcelona.es/web/english/noticies/futbol/temporada11-12/07/21/n110720118483.html -> Barcelona confirms Alexis' transfer, so Alexis is a Barcelona player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SaintJimmy94 (talkcontribs) 17:36, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Did you read the whole article? The player is due in Barcelona this weekend. Medical tests and the signing of the contract, which is for five years, will take place on Monday. He still needs to have a medical and more importantly sign the contract before he can become a Barcelona player. Mythical Curse (talk) 17:42, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Although he hasn't signed the contract yet, Udinese and Barcelona had agreed the transfer, so Alexis is a Barcelona player. Don't be troll... — Preceding unsigned comment added by SaintJimmy94 (talkcontribs) 17:52, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

You said it yourself, until the contract is signed he is not a Barca player. All sorts of problems could still occur over, say, his wages, any undiscovered injuries and so on. doomgaze (talk) 17:58, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

But the problems that you say occur in a 0,0000001 % of transfers... I don't understand why I can't edit the article to say that Alexis is a Barcelona player. In the spanish and italian articles there's no problem to say it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SaintJimmy94 (talkcontribs) 18:06, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

What the spanish and italian articles say is not our concern, different wikipedias have different rules. On the english wikipedia it's pretty simple: we don't say someone plays for a club, unless, well, they actually play for the club. doomgaze (talk) 18:41, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Like Fábio Coentrão's article? Days before he signed his contract with Real Madrid, in the article said that he alredy was a Real Madrid player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SaintJimmy94 (talkcontribs) 18:48, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The fact that rules were not followed on another article doesnot give you grounds to disregard rules at this article. Adam4267 (talk) 19:09, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, I won't edit the article until Monday. I hope you'll be happy :) SaintJimmy94 (talk) 19:13, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

You can still edit the article as long as you don't change his current club to Barca until monday. Personally I think the Club career section could use a bit of work. Adam4267 (talk) 19:17, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Individual Awards

edit

I was hoping someone could add something for me. He recently won Player of the Year at the inaugural Facebook Football Awards. Over a million votes were cast, with the winners being revealed at a live ceremony televised on BT Sport. Major outlets, like ESPN and the Daily Mail reported on it, so it was a fairly big deal.

Source - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenals-alexis-sanchez-wins-player-5766579

Also, under individual honours, it should say 'Kids' Choice Awards Favourite UK Footballer'. Without the word 'UK', it implies that it was a global category.

CIES Football Observatory, 2017 top 10 league dribblers ranking

edit

According to the CIES Football Observatory, in 2017 Sanchez ranked in the top 10 of league dribblers (source: [2]). An Italian sport journal linked to the Udinese ([3]) affirms it was in 2017 that he had the eight position with a 61 per cent quote of successful dribblings. This information can be eventually integrated in the Style of play section. Best regards, Philosopher81sp (talk) 20:38, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Also known mononymously as Alexis"

edit

Is this true? Obviously I'm more exposed to British English sources but I've never heard of just "Alexis"; it's always been Alexis Sanchez or just Sanchez. Feels like that name could be sourced? Couruu (talk) 08:18, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I mean, he wears "Alexis" on the back of his shirt. I think in Spanish-language sources he's known as Alexis more often. – PeeJay 10:49, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
True, but there are many players who have a different name on their shirt than what they are known as. Sergio Aguero (shirt: Kun Aguero), Dele Alli (shirt: Dele) and Virgil van Djik (shirt: Virgil) come to mind.
From what I can see, of those examples, only Aguero has their shirt name referenced and its backed up by an RS. Could someone find equivalent for Alexis Sanchez? Couruu (talk) 11:25, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
