Aliya Mustafina is Tatar

edit

The Olympic Champion Aliya Mustafina is Tatar (not Russian) as confirmed by her official website: http://www.aliyamustafina.ru/english/profile.php .

She is competing for Russia because Tatars are native people of Russia.

Please let me know, if you are interested in additional information about this.

How many times do you have to be told this? No one is disputing that she is of Tatar ethnicity. It's verified in the article and no one is trying to remove it. The question is solely how Mustafina should be defined in the lead, and as WP:OPENPARA states, Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. In this case, it's clearly not. As a gymnast, she represents the Russian people in competition, not Tatars. You obviously believe otherwise, but the consensus is against you, which was demonstrated in the dispute resolution you started then abandoned, instead opting to edit war when things didn't go your way. You have a clear conflict of interest regarding this matter, and as user Dmitrij D. Czarkoff pointed out in the dispute resolution, you seem to be using this article as an inappropriate soapbox for a nationalist debate. Give it a rest.  Mbinebri  talk ← 01:11, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

In fact, Aliya Mustafina's mother is ethnic Russian, so she is only half Tatar. Ladypoles (talk) 14:50, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

In the 2012 section, please change "On August 15th 2012, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Mustafina the Order of Friendship at a special ceremony at the Kremlin in Moscow for her achievements at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was one of 33 Russian athletes to receive the award.[1]" to "In August, Mustafina was awarded the Order of Friendship by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Moscow Kremlin for her achievements at the London Olympics. She was one of thirty-nine Russian athletes to receive the award.[2]" because it has a better reference and correct information and also add "Category:Recipients of the Order of Friendship"

Question: The new source doesn't actually say that Mustafina received an Order of Friendship, just that "39 medal winners received Orders of Friendship." Do you have a source that states directly that she received the Order of Friendship, other than her personal site? — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 11:34, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
It says "39 medal winners received Orders of Friendship. Judo wrestler Tagir Khaybulayev, gymnasts Alia Mustafina and Carolina Sebastyanova thanked Putin for support." I realize that isn't great but it's the best I've found. I'm going to keep looking.Malluu12 (talk) 15:56, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Not done for now: I've marked the edit request as answered until we can get hold of a source that directly makes the connection. Maybe you could ask at WikiProject Russia? Russian-language sources would be absolutely fine. — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 08:24, 23 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
