Feedback for Wikipedia assignment

edit

I'm a student at WashU, and as part of the Behavioral Ecology 2024 Wiki Education Assignment, I wanted to give you some feedback on the Wikipedia page. I've sent in a Google document with edits regarding this article to the Wiki assignment, but overall, my suggestions centered around reordering some parts of the paragraphs to make it flow better and fixing up some clarity with citations. Overall, it was very interesting to read.

Chri Ye (talk) 01:12, 12 April 2024 (UTC)This Wiki page is well organized and is written clearly with precise and fluent description. It contains a comprehensive list of information about the Altica flea beetle, including detailed description about the beetle’s behavior. In the Food resources section, the last paragraph discusses the beetle can be used as a biological control of Canada Thistle. I moved this section to interaction with the environment since it is not closely related to the food resources of the beetle. I added a Life history section since it provides important information about how the beetle develops from egg to adult and what the beetle feeds in each stage. This might be helpful for targeted pest control.Reply

Starting Page

edit

I am starting this page as a part of an assignment for my Behavioral Ecology course. I will be improving and adding more information to this page during the course! Angelina2024 (talk) 02:50, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

For now, I have added information regarding the geographic range of the beetle. I will further improve this page in the coming days! Angelina2024 (talk) 05:59, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have added more information to the lead section and geographic range sections. I have also added sections detailing food resources, protective behavior, mating, physiology, and the microbiome. Angelina2024 (talk) 06:27, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I recommended that this article include additional Wikipedia hyperlinks throughout, especially for the many beetle species mentioned. Also should be more clear with author names when introducing a study. For the different jumping modes, should also include citations at the end of each quoted sentence. This article was very informative. It was very interesting learning about the jumping mechanism of the beetles. This helps it escape from predators. The efficiency of it is very interesting. It can jump far distances in a short amount of time. I added some changes. One section I added was the impact of Wolbachia on the reproduction of the beetles. Wolbachia can lead to new insect species and it was investigated in the beetle. This is important because it distinguishes the beetle from other insects. Wolbachia does not have a profound impact on the beetle’s reproduction. Another section I added is the morphological similarity between A. cirsicola and another beetle species, A. carduorum. They are potential insects for biological control because they have similar appearances. However, their genetic similarity is low and they are siblings species. This means they cannot be used as a definitive control method. Connectscience0224 (talk) 21:18, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
