Wrong person in the picture?

edit

According to contemporary Norwegian newspapers, it was Astrid Yvonne de Ridder who broke her leg in training at the Olympics. Dellai had results in both slalom, giant slalom and downhill, de Ridder was a non-starter because of the leg. So are we sure this is Dellai in the picture and not de Ridder?

Here is what I suspect might have happened, I have done it myself. Argentina is listed in sport referense pages as having 11 male and 1 female participant in Oslo -52. This is because these are the ones with results. Non-starters are almost never noted. Then a sport Wikipedian finds a picture of a female Argentinian athlete in the Oslo Olympics 1952 and according to the list, this Dellai girl is the only possibility, without checking for non-starters. But several Norwegian sport writers went besides themselves about this Argentinian beauty at the slopes who had broken her leg training before her race, insisting her name was Astrid de Ridder.

So is there any Argentinian sports contributors reading this, with Argentinian news paper access or old sport books at hand to confirm which one this is, de Ridder or Dellai?

PS I have raised the same question at the file at Commons, but thought I should give it a try here as well Paaln (talk) 12:32, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
