Further cleanup and work to be done
editThis has grown to become a fairly large and messy article with relatively few in-line citations, which is a cause for concern. Furthermore, the information presented in the page is rather scattered and random, jumping back and forth in chronology for rather confusing reasons, and even including information that bares little-to-no relevance to the subject in question. For example, the section Influence of U.S. anarchists is filled with uncited and largely irrelevant information that could easily be reduced to a sentence or two. (I'm not sure what Johann Most had to do with Anarchism in China at all, the text makes no connection) There are also two sections titled "Anarchism as a mass movement" and "Anarchism as a popular movement" which are made up of largely uncited information, and no distinction is made as to what the difference between a "mass movement" and a "popular movement" is supposed to be. There are even some sections with citation needed tags dating back to 2007.
I think there needs to be a concerted effort to find citations to the uncited information, to sufficiently cleanup the article so that it presents the information in an easily digestible way, and to remove existing text that is either sourced from original research or irrelevant to the main subject of the article.--Grnrchst (talk) 12:19, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Grnrchst, nice work on the expansion! (By the way, {{ping}}s only send when signed with your four tilde signature in the same post.) The messiness of the prior article was in part due to a recent expansion from a student, but looks like you have it covered. Wanted to note that the article is about 86kB in length now, when we usually look to split or reduce content around at the 50kB mark to keep the article readable. Some content might fit better in other articles and some content might need to be deleted to keep the focus specifically on the relevant connection to anarchist (instead of radicalism writ large). Let me know if you'd like a hand once you're finished with the core article—happy to help. czar 18:24, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks @Czar:! I'm pretty much done with the restructuring of the article yeah, although I still want to incorporate more citations in from Zarrow's book, as I was mainly working with Dirlik's. As for splitting, I was thinking creating standalone articles for the specific groups (Paris Group, Chinese Socialist Party, Guangzhou group, etc.) might be a way of doing it. If that's not enough, maybe another article specifically about anarchic tendencies in the People's Republic and the relationship between anarchism and Maoism might be worth doing.--Grnrchst (talk) 18:37, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Grnrchst, would you have a paginated copy of Scalapino & Yu 1961 to fill in the remaining "page needed" tags? czar 07:21, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hey @Czar:, unfortunately I haven't been able to find a paginated copy of the original 1961 edition anywhere. The closest I can find to a paginated copy is the 2003 "Anarchy is Order" edition on the Internet Archive and a 2011 pdf version on The Anarchist Library. --Grnrchst (talk) 08:50, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Grnrchst, can you download this? czar 05:03, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- Aye thanks! This is the 1961 edition? Grnrchst (talk) 07:54, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Grnrchst, yep and added the front matter czar 04:51, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

@Grnrchst, will you have time to add the page numbers for Scalapino & Yu 1961? Otherwise I can take a crack at it—one of the last cleanup jobs in the cleanup drive. czar 21:21, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- I've handled the last "page needed" cleanup tags. Ready for a GA nom? czar 17:52, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Lede in the "Early growth of anarchism" section
edit@Czar and Grnrchst:I've noticed a couple of sources recently that say anarchism appeared earlier than that, and in addition to The Great Tide in Russia, which I mentioned above, there are more than a few references to the influence of Russian nihilists on China from the same time period. For example: [1], and Dirlik's book, pg 71. I'm considering rewriting the first paragraph as a passage of early anarchist propagation books and pamphlets, any comments? ときさき くるみ not because they are easy, but because they are hard 15:04, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Tokisaki Kurumi, go for it! czar 15:07, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Czar: Partly done now. Even so, I still feel a little too focused on background right now. ときさき くるみ not because they are easy, but because they are hard 13:58, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
