Source from Unverified Facebook account
edit@Cyphoidbomb: Sir, can this video from an unverified facebook account be used as a valid source? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:28, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: I wouldn't link to it, since we don't know where it came from. It's not licensed as Creative Commons. I know that's probably frustrating. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:01, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- OK I'll remove it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:16, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Year of Birth confusions and Cousin source
edit@Cyphoidbomb: Sir,
- I've used this source for his birth_date which seems most reliable but this source mentions him to be a year older ie 1980 birth which I changed to 1981 as per the former TOI source.
- Secondly, the name of his cousins were not sourced in the older versions. I've added a TellyChakkar source. I've put a "better source" tag since TellyChakkar is not reliable as per WP:ICTF. Is it OK or the mention of his cousins need to be deleted? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:35, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Some of these sources can be tricky to make sense of. This source you linked above doesn't have a publication date, it just says "Last updated on - Aug 31, 2015". That's not always helpful. What if this article was last updated a year after it was written? Anyway, you might consider adding it as a range like I did at Disha Patani. As for the cousin thing--I dunno, it seems fairly innocuous, I probably wouldn't object. There might be a valid argument for allowing some content from these lesser sites, due to a lack of quality references sometimes. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:12, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb:, Oh gosh, I missed the fact that this source doesn't have a publication date. Atleast the date and month would stay the same if not the year. I'll add a range like you suggested i.e. 31 August 1980 or 31 August 1981.
- I typically do not remove TellyChakkar sources I come across unless I find a more reliable one. I tag it with a "better source needed". It is also because users in this discussion about TellyCkkar in WP:ICTF do not seem completely against it. But since, I've added this source myself, I thought it would be better to take advice from you. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:14, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: For minor, uncontroversial pieces of information like release dates, or if the site has an interview, I personally look the other way--I'm not saying that other hardcore editors would agree with that, but there are a lot of gaps in Indian journalism, and we can't assume that Times of India is going to cover everything. But if the matter is gossipy or has the potential of being the subject of a big dispute, I'd remove lesser sources like this. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:38, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb: Totally agree with you sir. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:55, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
