Early Life
editAnita Burroughs was born in Jersey City New Jersey. Her mother Leonora worked as an Executive Assistant in a number of industries. Her father Irving was a jewelry manufacturer in New York City. The family lived in North Bergen NJ, until a small aircraft hit the building in which they were living. Anita's grandparents also lived in the building, and subsequently bought a two family home in Tenafly NJ where Anita lived with her parents, grandparents Esther and Max Fernhoff, and her brother Mitch. Mitch ran a successful jewelry business, specializing in manufacturing military rings for all branches of service.
Following high school in Tenafly, Anita lived in Massachusetts during her college years, in Cambridge and Brookline MA. Following college, she worked as a social worker in at the Concord State men's prison, followed by a job with a drug counseling program in Quincy MA.
After completing her MBA, Anita worked in the computer industry for a PC vendor, Selecterm, followed by employment as a marketing specialist at Digital Equipment Corporation in Marlborough MA.
After moving to New Hampshire with her husband Jonathan, Anita started a mail order jewelry company specializing in dog and cat theme products. She also ran a succcessful catering company upon moving to Glen NH, the Everyday Gourmet.

Community Involvement
editAnita was one of the founding board members of the Conway Area Humane Society where she served as board chair for eleven years. She also served as the board chair for Starting Point; Services for the Victims of Sexual and Domestic Violence.
Anita and her husband Jonathan have fostered over a dozen Brittany Spaniels over the years, and became failed fosters for three of their dogs, Butterscotch, Ozzie and Cody.
Their cat Yoshi went viral after appearing on a Zoom call during Covid of the NH Legislature's Commerce Committee. He was subsequently asked not to attend committee meetings, which prompted an outry of support for the cat worldwide. Yoshi's story appeared in the Washington Post, People Magazine, NHPR, and the LA Times, among other publications. (8)
