edit"It is characterized by the replacement of a single amino acid at R173C." I think: "It is characterised by the replacement of arginine by cysteine at position 173." would describe the situation more clearly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.191.24.30 (talk) 16:20, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Name of Article/mutation
editThe title of the article is "ApoA-1 Milano" but in the text in some places it is "ApoA-I Milano". Which is correct, the digit 1 or the letter I? I have seen both elsewhere on the internet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.52.83 (talk) 13:25, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- As you said, different sources provide different nomenclatures and sometimes gene databases will not match protein databases, so you have to be clear about what you are referring to. For example, the preferred protein name based on UniProt is "Apolipoprotein A-I" and shortens to "ApoA-I" or "Apo-AI".[1] HGNC recommends the gene name "apolipoprotein A1" and the symbol "APOA1".[2] While "the internet" as a whole is not a good basis, journals use alternate forms.2015 example A review of standards is in order and a should be applied consistently through the article. This is a bigger task than I will take on immediately. BiologicalMe (talk) 19:18, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
