Fannie Quigley

edit

Just noticed on your userpage that one of your foci is Alaskan women. There's an article I wrote, Fannie Quigley, that could certainly have more about her if you know of more to tell. Her story is fascinating: I learned of her when I visited Denali and stayed at a lodge deep in the park that was next to her final cabin, and was surprised not to see anything on Wikipedia about her. In one of her letters she noted that she hadn't seen another woman for several years! — rsjaffe 🗣️ 21:46, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@RsjaffeAs soon as my library's Alaska collection re-opens to the public, I'll have a look! It's funny, though, I've lived in Alaska my whole life, and I've even been to Denali, but I've also somehow never heard of her before. She seems like such an interesting women. Imagine travelling as far as she did, on her own, when she was just a teenager! And the part about her letters made me smile. Our gender ratio is a bit better now than it was in the times of the gold rushes, but I was born in logging/fishing town. My mother would have very much sympathized with Quigley! Copyrighted stuff

edit

was the copyrighted material the mission statement and goals. they were properly referenced. just want to know for future. thanks@GreenLipstickLesbian Drwho407 (talk) 22:08, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Drwho407 Yes, that's right. On Wikipedia, we can't copy-paste material from external sources, even if we cite them. We have to write everything in our own words! Thank you for asking, and good luck writing the article. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 22:11, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh okay. i wasnt sure if I should paraphrase the mission and goals since my paraphasing would just be an interpretation of their mission and goals rather than what they have actually stated. Drwho407 (talk) 22:18, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
also do you know how to get unbanned. After I screwed up the draftspace thing i got banned from edits as i was accidentally doing them live, creating what i thought were drafts but were actually live articles that weren't ready to be uploaded. thanks @GreenLipstickLesbian Drwho407 (talk) 22:22, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Drwho407 Yeah, editing Wikipedia can be pretty difficult at times. To answer your first question, yes you should try to summarize other people's text, not copy it. If you're worried that you could have distorted the meaning, then feel free to ask somebody to check your work. But, in this case, I wouldn't advise trying to re-add the mission statements. Wikipedia doesn't really care what people and businesses say about themselves. We care about what third-party sources say about the subject.
To answer your second points- hm, I'm not entirely sure. You've only been blocked from mainspace (the place where we write articles). You can still write drafts, and you can still post messages to talk pages. I think the best way for you to be unbanned would be to take a month or two, and practise writing articles in the draft space. That way admins can see you're learning, and can see you're receptive to feedback. We actually have a lot of editors who are required to write articles in the draftspace, and then get permission to publish them. Some editors also do it voluntarily, because they don't think they have enough knowledge of Wikipedia's policies, but they still want to help improve the encyclopedia. They didn't have issue with my ability to edit or add as most of the changes I have made have been retained. It was simply a mistake of publishing the article instead of doing a draft. i was tired last night and didnt notice i was creating live articles. i was just wrapped up in condensing down that mess of page. on it they said they were just doing it to get my attention to stop the whole article draftspace nonsense. thanks @GreenLipstickLesbian Drwho407 (talk) 23:12, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
It says that any admin can remove it or does the person who banned have to approve the action or something. a month or two, jeez, well there goes my wiki editing while recooperating lol. Drwho407 (talk) 23:17, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Again thank you for your help. Also look into Hunter Green colored lipstick. it looks good on wainscotting so i feel as though it would work great as a lipstick color. it is slept on in the Colors to paint your with face world. Have a good night if you're from the East Coast of USA. Thank you so much @GreenLipstickLesbian Drwho407 (talk) 23:26, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've just had a look, and I think you're right- that is a goergeous colour. I'll have to give it a spin sometime!
And I'm happy you're free to edit article space again, and this all got resolved. Feel free to reach out to me as well if you need any advice, or ask at the WP:TEAHOUSE. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 23:44, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
It really is. Ooh thanks for the teahouse page tip. You are very helpful. Thank you very much Drwho407 (talk) 01:36, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I lifted the block before seeing this discussion. We all make mistakes; please discuss them when more experienced editors point them out to you. I have no recollection of the basis on which I decided to grant that user autopatrolled status - since it was, as you said, back in 2010. Do you genuinely feel that they're doing enough copyvio to make their stuff problematic? I'll trust your judgment on this. DS (talk) 15:51, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@DragonflySixtyseven Yeah, 2010 is a pretty long time ago - so much can change! I hope you don't mind I took a week to get back to you. I think if it was just a one off mistake, I'd have left it. But given that it happened more than a few times... I think it might be for the best if somebody else checks their work for now. And again, sorry for going to you. I just didn't want to go to a dramaboard, and I don't like privately asking admins to undo each others actions when I can at all help it. (Maybe that's just a me thing though).
