Moved from Arezzo, Italy
editArezzo, Itally is a town near the birthplace of Gianfrancesco, also known as Giovanni Francesco Poggio Bracciolini, a famous humanist of the Italian Renaissance. (unsigned, User:Kosebamse, 11 Jun 2003)

editFolded in material improperly found under province of Arezzo; removed Michelangelo birthplace (he was born quite some distance away, at the town now called Caprese Michelangelo; am none too sure about Maecenas despite the widespread presumption and consequent boosterism, although he was from the general region (left him in). Englished the article a bit. Article still needs a good deal of work, but will have to find someone with more time than yours truly, Bill 14:30, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

edit- Removed potentially libelous statement, hard to verify, about drug market: Arezzo is a small place and that campground can be identified.
- "Episcopal" is capitalized when used as a synonym for "Episcopalian", but in the sense of "pertaining to a bishop" is lower-case; as is "bishop" except as a title (i.e., "the bishop of Arezzo", but "Bishop Guglielmino").
- Cortona is not particularly nearby by Italian standards, it's just in the province: the book (and later, movie) is irrelevant to the city of Arezzo, barely mentioning it if at all.
replaced mayor first name
editAmintore was Giuseppe Fanfani's uncle

The correct pronunciation of "Arezzo"
editHi there. As I am Italian, I noticed that the current audio file contains a flawed (Northern) pronunciation of "Arezzo", which is actually [aˈreʦːʦo] (as you can hear here — please listen to the second one, as the first one wrongly says [eː] instead of a short [e] — and see here), not [aˈrɛʦːʦo] (as the current voice says). While in English it is a minor, 'territorial' difference (American bed [bɛd] versus Australian bed [bed]), in Italian /e/ and /ɛ/ actually are phonemes (e.g., pesca [ˈpesːka] "fishing" versus pesca [ˈpɛsːka] "peach")! Thank you for your attention. --Socho-sama (talk) 01:41, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
I agree, The current sound sample is substandard, because the vowel is pronounced too open [ɛ] (Arèzzo). Arezzo should be pronounced with a close vowel in standard Italian: [a'retstso] (Arézzo). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Linda Martens (talk • contribs) 23:55, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- The correct pronunciation of Arezzo is [aˈrettso], with /e/ and not /ɛ/. See Arezzo in Dizionario italiano di ortografia e pronunzia and consider that it uses "é" for /e/ and "è" for /ɛ/. Also I must say that [a'retstso] is one of the most queer phonetic transcription I've ever seen: gemination is not to be indicated in that way, but [aˈretːso] is a valid alternative. I punctuate this in order to avoid that one put wrong stuff. --84101e40247 (talk) 13:56, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
