Clarification needed
edit“The Gold Cup is one of three perpetual trophies at the Royal Ascot meeting, along with the Royal Hunt Cup and the Queen's Vase, which can be kept permanently by the winning owners“
What? They make a new one every year for the winner to keep? Expensive. 2A00:23C5:E08D:8A00:8408:3A4F:7532:F9A3 (talk) 13:08, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Trophy
editI've removed this image from the article as the wording on the plaque raises doubts about the trophy's identity. When the photo is enlarged the following lines are legible:
- ASCOT CUP
- 1878
- Won by Count De Lagrange's
- VERNEUIL
- Beating Lord Falmouth's
- LADY GOLIGHTLY
There were four runners in the 1878 Gold Cup:
- 1st-Verneuil, 2nd-Silvio, 3rd-St Christophe, 4th-Hampton.
...and there were two participants in that year's Gold Vase (also at Ascot):
- 1st-Verneuil, 2nd-Lady Golightly.

Article title?
editSince the article states 'the actual title of the race does not include the word "Ascot".' Would it not make sense to represent that reality in the article title?
Something like... Gold Cup (Ascot) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.119.204.117 (talk) 01:57, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'd leave it where it is. Although its officially the Gold Cup, its almost always referred to as the Ascot Gold Cup so I would go with WP:COMMONAME here. --Bcp67 (talk) 12:49, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
