Allegation by Vinita Kamte regarding Ashok Kamte's Death being fabricated
editShe says "I knew on the second day (of the attack) itself that Ashok had shot Qasab, but doubts were being raised about this. Some politicians said: 'Oh! They were unprepared'. It hurt, as my husband never acted impulsively and was always prepared. He carried an AK 47 and he was very good with it. Everyone in the police department said Ashok had shot Qasab, but it was not on record. I met a senior Crime Branch officer who was in charge of the investigation. But he also did not give me the correct picture. But I felt very bad about the Crime Branch floating many stories." Her Version of Investigation
edit"VINITA KAMATE ON WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT
Vinita's investigation revealed that Kamte, Karkare and Salaskar did not act on impulse, but did the best they could under the given circumstances.
While Additional CP Sadanand Date and some cops were fighting the terrorists inside Cama hospital in complete darkness, Kamte, Karkare and Salaskar were near the rear gate, chalking out a plan of action.
With no sign of reinforcements for over 40 minutes, Kamte and Karkare decided they needed to do something to help Date. The group of about 15 cops, who were outside the hospital, were divided into two groups.
One group was posted at the rear gate while Kamte, Karkare, Salaskar and a few others decided to enter from the front gate. They took over the only car available, that of the ACP of Pydhonie division, and moved towards the front, via Rang Bhavan where they were ambushed by the terrorists.
Vinita alleged that the control room was not properly disseminating information. For example, some people had reported seeing the terrorists running towards the lane near Rang Bhavan but this information was not passed on to Kamte and the others with him.
"In fact, the terrorists had been there for over 10 minutes. Witnesses said when they saw the police vehicle (with the three officers) entering the Rang Bhavan lane, they thought it had been sent by the control room," says Vinita.
"There was also an officer who took a gun from a constable and fired at the terrorists from the front gate as they were fleeing. I cannot understand why he did not alert Salaskar, knowing he was headed in that direction."
Vinita also believes that had there been some prompt police action after the Rang Bhavan attack, at least Salaskar could have been saved. "Witnesses, including the injured driver of an IAS officer, told me that two police vans came to rescue him after the Rang Bhavan attack. While they picked him up, no one picked up the bodies of the three officers.
“While Kamte and Karkare died instantly, Salaskar was alive for quite some time. His life could have been saved. Also, the control room had been informed about the encounter, but no one came there for over 40 minutes," alleges Vinita.
Ashok Kamte After her investigation, Vinita met the senior Crime Branch officer. "I told him what my investigation had revealed. I told him that it was traumatising to respond to the doubts raised by so many people and that the Crime Branch must make the facts public."
The officer promised to do the needful after the Winter session of the Assembly, which he did on January 8.
But for Vinita, a 43-year-old non-practising lawyer based in Pune, 'justice delayed is justice denied'.
"Why did it take the police one-and-a-half months to declare something that was evident on the second day of the attack. It's just not correct - the manner in which I lost my husband and what I have had to go through after that. A woman is traumatised and forced to conduct her own investigation.
“It's just not right."[2]

the relevant page is WP:NOTMEMORIAL: Wikipedia isn't a memorial site for deceased people. All articles on people who are notable only because they were killed in the Mumbai attacks belong merged into Casualties of the 2008 Mumbai attacks. --dab (𒁳) 09:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ashok Kamte, Hemant Karkare, Vijay Salaskar were not mear victims ov 26/11 they were also did great things for Mumbai Police. All of three came in Lime light because on 26/11 but People of Maharashtra and Mumbai Knows what great things they did in their cariers! I'll expand their articles--Suyogtalk to me! 09:20, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
You should read WP:BIO first. Being a great police officer doesn't buy you a Wikipedia article. If necessary, these "Mumbai victim" bio articles will need to be WP:AFD'd. --dab (𒁳) 09:29, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

no sources are presented that establish that Kamte was considered notable before he became a terrorist victim. In this sense, yes, this is an obituary. --dab (𒁳) 12:07, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- SO Mister "Dbachmann" Appling your same parameters to James Blake Miller article Miller's article must be deleted first and then Kamet's article first go and delet James Blake Miller article and then come here PLEASE SEE THIS TALK PAGES ALSO Talk:Hemant Karkare and Talk:Vijay Salaskar.--Suyogtalk to me! 14:54, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
wow, it didn't take you long to go into shouting mode. Please spare me the WP:OTHERCRAP. I agree James Blake Miller is a dubious case too, altough it is correct that we may have articles dedicated to certain individual famous photos, such as Tank Man. --dab (𒁳) 16:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Merge Proposal
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
There is no need to merge this article as coverage on Ashok Kamte can be found from 1998. Please refer to this. Please remove the merge proposal tag. Thanks. Shovon (talk) 07:20, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Just to add to this, notability of this bio is established as an Ashoka Chakra recipient. See Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Any_biography–Capricorn42 (talk) 06:51, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- Unlike for Vijay Salaskar and Hemant Karkare, I did not find enough sources to establish that Ashok Kamte meets wikipedia's notability requirements and at this stage would support a merger with Casualties of the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Till date I found reports of his arrest of an MLA over bursting of crackers, and leading a lathi-charge. Of course, I can be convinced otherwise if more/better sources are found - especially ones that are not directly related to his death. Abecedare (talk) 07:57, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- I have given a Google news search link above. Why don't you see that. Thanks. Shovon (talk) 08:07, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- According to Indian Express, "Ashok Kamte's biceps are as awe inspiring as his baton. Kamte is a power-lifter and a body-builder to boot. Till now, he has broken three national records in power-lifting and won half-a-dozen gold and silver medals." Shovon (talk) 08:32, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- (after ec) It would be much more helpful if you could provide specific articles that establish notability, instead of simple search results. Better still, the news articles should be incorporated into the article itself in order to source the current content of the article and add new material if available. That way, it is clear to any editor/reader, why the person is notable. (As you probably saw, I have done a bit of such work for the Hemant Karkare article.) Abecedare (talk) 08:37, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I do not have the reqd time right now. So, will only be able to provide the links. The related links that I have found so far are given below -
- TOI, 17th Aug 2007. This is on his clash with an MLA.
- Indian Express], 1998. This talks about Kamte being a Powerlifter & Body Builder. It also states that Kamte had set 3 National Records as of 23rd January 1998.
- Indian Express, 12 May 1999. It says Kamte was selected for the UN International Police Task Force and served three years in Bosnia.
- Indian Express, 5 June 1998. Covers an encounter where Kamte and another Police official killed a gangster. Shovon (talk) 08:59, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- UN International Police Task Force is of great importance because he was First IPS to serve in UN. And other notable fact is he is a Youth icon. He is a source of insperitation to many youth to joint IPS service.--Suyogtalk to me! 10:12, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
