Battle honours

edit

Hello fellow Australian honours and awards enthusiasts. It is proposed merging the content on battle honours in this article to existing articles Battle and theatre honours of the Australian Army and Battle honours of the Royal Australian Navy or creating a general "Australian battle and theatre honours” article to put them in, given they are not formally part of the Australian honours and award system (which only recognises individuals and groups of individuals - not organisations, even the odd balls, the UCG & MUC are primarily focused on those individuals who earned that unit award).

A battle honour is granted through the Royal Prerogative of the monarch, but exercised by each branch of the Australian Defence Force (the Army also has theatre honours). Policies for battle honours for each service are different and there is no joint or tri-service policy. Battle honours are seen as important aspects of tradition by some, and poorly understood by the majority. They are not seen as the primary means of recognising teams and groups for gallant or meritorious service in the way UCG, MUC or Commendations for Service are. Defence Honours and Awards and Commendations Policy Review, 8 February 2008

If no objections raised before 24 June 2020, I’ll merge it off this article. In the meantime, all interested are welcome to discuss. Kangaresearch 10:22, 10 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed medals

edit

Hello all,

before I go spending any time on it, I thought I might see if anyone has any objections or thoughts to me trying to put in a 'proposed medals' section. I would be only listing those proposed by government reviews, DHAAT & other internal defence recommendations and not the numerous recommendations from the public. It comes to mind since five new medals have now been proposed.Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 06:02, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
