Rape allegations
editThe stories concerning recent rape allegations don't belong here, as they took place in Sankrod and Asara villages, neither of which is part of Baghpat tehsil, which this article covers (never mind the fact that there is excess detail and thus of WP:UNDUE weight), although the villages are within Baghpat district. "Sankrodh" is on the list of Baghpat villages here, but that is an error (inserted here without explanation or source), as nothing resembling "Sankrodh" exists on the referenced list. I plan to remove that name (as I really should remove the entire error-prone and contentious list), as well as the paragraphs dealing with the rape allegations. - Thankyou for discussing this. Do you have a source for your claims here? There are plenty of sources (some already added) that relate this story and refer to Baghpat as the location. This is the article that already discusses the local panchayat and its judgements. There is no obvious more specific article, perhaps for the villages, to move the content to. - Reuters in Sankrod: "members of the village council in the Baghpat region of northern India have said they passed no such order. "
- Can you explain why the sources are conflating Sankrod and Baghpat like this, against your advice? Andy Dingley (talk) 21:09, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
- Baghpat superintendent of police Sharad Sachan has denied that such an order was passed but added that the two Dalit girls from Sankrod village and their family had been provided security, reports The Times of India. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:12, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
- My "source" is that none of the sources, that I saw, supporting the allegations, make mention of Baghpat where the town itself is certainly meant, and the fact that neither of the villages mentioned is in Baghpat town/tehsil, according to the list referenced in the "neighborhoods" section. It's not the sources that are conflating Baghpat tehsil and the villages, it's the editors here. Possibly better places for the rape allegation material are the article on Bagpat district, for the Sankrod(h) allegation, and Asara, India, for the allegation pertaining to that community. - Do you know where the panchayat is based? It seems that the whole section might be better simply moved to Bagpat district.
- I think this is an important topic and should not be removed (it was here before the rape claims), but I can appreciate that it might be more relevant to the distrit than to the town. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:11, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Andy Dingley: Asara, in Khekra tehsil, has its own article, linked above. Sankrod is in Chhaprauli tehsil. I would move the relevant sections to those articles, but I wouldn't include so much detail (especially the lurid and apparently not well-founded gang-rape allegations). You would only need a sentence or so to make clear that these allegations were made. Otherwise, you overwhelm small articles with material that has to be regarded as WP:UNDUE. If we need and can have so much detail, I think a separate article—say, on the rape culture of India, if that's not unfair—would be necessary. Dhtwiki (talk) 23:08, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Andy Dingley: I've gone ahead and removed the misplaced material. Dhtwiki (talk) 20:54, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
