Length of non-stop flight

"It makes the longest non-stop flight known for any bird [...], 13,690 kilometres (8,507 mi) along a route from Alaska to New Zealand." — The quoted distance is wrong. The flight from New Zealand to Alaska is completed in two stages: it includes a stop on the shores of the Yellow Sea. The non-stop flight is from Alaska to New Zealand and for bird 'E7' was about 11,600 km (7,200 miles) (ref.: http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1774) — 222.155.94.62 (talk) 20:50, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

This post may explain my confusion; the text indeed speaks of a trip from Alaska to New Zealand, but the picture clearly shows only a flight from Korea to Kiwiland. Needs fixing. 98.71.255.6 (talk) 23:05, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Avinof peninsula?

"...from the Avinof Peninsula in western Alaska..." The only hits on google for the Avinof Peninsula are this and related articles which have the same text. In SW Alaska there is Cape Avinof, aka Cape Avinoff, which does not appear to be at the end of a peninsula. The references don't mention where in Alaska E7 left land, just that she left from the Yukon delta.

The bar-tailed godwit (Limosa lapponica) is a large wader in the family Scolopacidae. Its migration is the longest known non-stop flight of any bird; in 2007, godwits tagged in New Zealand were tracked to the Yellow Sea in China, with one specimen continuing on to Alaska, then returning to New Zealand in a non-stop trip.Photo: Andreas Trepte

The bar-tailed godwit (Limosa lapponica) is a large wading bird in the family Scolopacidae. Breeding takes place each summer in the Arctic, and the bird then makes a long-distance migration southwards to overwinter in more temperate areas, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere. This photograph, taken in March, shows a bird in non-breeding plumage at Taren Point in New South Wales, Australia.
