This article badly needs a cleaning up. The section entitled "Prelude" reads more like a poorly-written story than an encyclopedic article. However, I'm not knowledgeable enough about this subject to provide a better version. Maybe it could be merged into the article, Massacre of Elphinstone's Army? Captain James Souter joined the other hostages taken by Akbar Khan and was eventually freed on 21 September 1842. Have a look at the FIBIS articles Captivity of the Hostages and Retreat from Kabul to Gundamak--Symorsebrown (talk) 11:13, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
