Creation
editYou beat me to creating this by a day, @Ganesha811; nice work! (If it turns out to be the next TikTok you'll get all the fame haha) If it's expanded a little more, we could take it to DYK—blurbs like "...that the social media app BeReal is designed to capture the mundanity of everyday life?" might do well. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 20:48, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- I was surprised it didn't already exist, so I created it myself. Feel free to expand, of course - I hadn't thought of taking it to DYK, but if you can get it there, more power to ya! Ganesha811 (talk) 20:49, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Expanded it a little and nominated it today. Ganesha811 (talk) 17:30, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

- ... that BeReal, a social media app, makes everyone look boring, according to one writer? Source: Koebler, Jason BeReal Isn't Real and Makes Everyone Look Extremely Boring. Vice. "It’s an interesting experiment and a fun app that, in practice, creates a different type of fake social media dystopia: one where everyone’s life looks bleaker and more boring than it actually is."

- New enough, long enough. Hook is interesting and supported by reliable sources; however Earwig picked up a possible violation of FossPC at 54.8%. Did they copy from you or what is the explanation? --Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:58, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- Yup, looks like they copied from us. I wrote that paragraph and you will note that the Earwig similarities to more reliable sources are all at 2% or lower. FossPC just lifted our 'Features' section straight into their article/guide. Ganesha811 (talk) 14:12, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- Good to Go. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:14, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Actually it's been heavily promoted mid-2022
editSomehow they are trying to launch this social network to the wide public. It's not widely used, only widely advertised. I'd even say that its notability is dubious. Bumptump (talk) 16:35, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- The sources in the History section prove it's notability and its demonstrated popularity. It was the top downloaded app in Germany in April and this Axios article cited there also cites sources for it's popularity. Jebiguess (talk) 18:46, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- As mentioned, there are plenty of sources in the body that support the statement in the lead that it rapidly gained popularity in 2022 (see WP:LEADCITE). I'm going to remove the template for now. However, it would be a generally good idea to keep an eye on this one for promotional or paid editing, since the company has used paid college ambassadors for "organic" marketing before. —Ganesha811 (talk) 18:49, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
Removal of content from lead
editHere to discuss with Natemup and anyone else, to avoid edit warring: I'm confused as to why material is repeatedly being removed from the lead. Natemup, you have said that it is unencyclopedic, redundant, and unsourced. The content is not unsourced; it is sourced in the body of the article, which per WP:LEADCITE is completely acceptable. It is not redundant to provide a summary of the contents of the body in the lead - that's what it's there for! Finally, I'm not sure why you think it is unencyclopedic, but if there is specific wording you have an objection to, it would be better to change the wording or phrasing rather than removing material wholesale. —Ganesha811 (talk) 02:22, 6 September 2022 (UTC) (edited slightly 13:43, 6 September 2022 (UTC))
- Agreed with @Ganesha811; the material seems appropriate to me. We should have a summary of the app's reception, which the sentence captures well. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 05:23, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

"Data protection" cites the wrong App
edit"Data protection" cites the wrong App. It’s called BeReal too, but it’s not the app which is discussed on this page. BOS Addict (talk) 19:50, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- Good point! I've removed the section. —Ganesha811 (talk) 20:51, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

Wiktionary link removed
editBoxed links to other wiki projects are generally meant to go at the end of an article or on a disambiguation page, not on alongside body text (WP:MOSSIS). This Wiktionary link though goes to a page that is essentially a tiny Wikipedia article and is up for deletion for that reason. ( https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/BeReal ).
