Reception
editChanged the phrase "generally favorable" to "mixed", as the stats provided don't back up the claim that most reviews were positive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wooster84 (talk • contribs) 12:03, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Worst movie ever! Hoping it makes the list.
White Stripes?
editUntil it's confirmed, I'm removing the section about the White Stripes. "Be Kind, Rewind" is a phrase that's been in use for decades, and the fact that Gondry is friends with the White Stripes does not make the fact that the phrase is used in "Rag and Bone" anything but a coincidence. Feel free to add it back if it's substantiated, but if so, cite sources, please. BOne (talk) 18:56, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
a list of movies?
editShould a list of movies that are parodied/redone in the film be made on here?
- Robocop
- Rush Hour 2
- 2001: A Space Odeyssy
- The Lion King
- Driving Miss Daisy
- Ghostbusters
- Boyz n the Hood
- Rocky
- Be Kind Rewind
- Funny Games
- Dave Chappelle's Block Party
- Blades of Glory
- Debbie_Does_Dallas:_The_Musical
Possible Reference
editI doubt Gondry would have known about this, but on the Nickelodeon show All That they had a series of sketches very similar to the plot of this movie. Should that be noted here? Yoshiman64 (talk) 01:52, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- The sketches you're thinking off initially appeared on The Amanda Show, the spinoff of All That. And yeah, maybe it should be noted here. --Tenk you veddy much. --Wack'd Talk to me! • Admire my handiwork! 20:14, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it was the "Blockblister" video store. Very funny stuff! Ianthegecko (talk) 06:23, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Nuclear activist?
editIs Jerry really a nuclear activist? I don't remember that. He just dislikes the power plant and the "microwaves". --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 22:05, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- I changed it to just activist.--Patrick (talk) 11:14, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
theaters
editis it just me or did the movie kinda pass by without much notice, i saw 1 trailer in a movie theater and then it passed on.--Jakezing (talk) 04:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
It was poorly advertised, because they couldn't really show off the movie without paying royalties to the films they parody.. I'm personally wondering what the end really implied.. It was pretty open ended.. - NemFX (talk) 23:30, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- If they can't air a commercial showing these, how do they show a movie full of them?
Also, with a budget of only 20 million which pales in comparison to the budget of a Hollywood film, the producers probably didn't allocate much of the money towards advertising.
Actual Passiac Residents
editThe DVD special feature Passiac Mosiac shows residents of Passaic being cast in and acting out parts in the Fats Waller Swede shown towards the end of the movie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.170.189.100 (talk) 07:14, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
"Sweding" vs. fan films
editIsn't the process of "Sweding" a film exactly identical to that of making a fan film, which fans have been doing for years? I mean, there are literally thousands of Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who parodies out there created with duct tape and cardboard? Star Wreck is a good example of a few "sweded" clips turning into a feature production. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stoney3K (talk • contribs) 22:25, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- The difference is that the Sweded movies weren't parodies, they were just remakes of the original (same overall plot/characters/basic script) while parodies or fan films tend to just be based in the same universe with new stories. Also parodies tend to change alot of names. So Sweded films are similar to but not the same as fan films. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.7.6.213 (talk) 12:22, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Etymology of "Sweding"
editI've only watched this film twice and don't own it to go and check this, but I'm pretty sure that the term "Sweded" comes from the girl (from the dry cleaners) saying that the video is "suited" (that is, "suite-ed" from "suite", not "suit", i.e. a bespoke production) and this being misheard/misunderstood as "Sweded" by the Jack Black character who then comes up with the Sweden thing despite not really understanding it. Someone would need to check this though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.147.145 (talk) 00:14, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- I watched the movie yesterday and disagree with the preceding original research about the origin of the term. The girl just makes up on the spot the word "sweded" to justify the delay inherent in making the new version. In the film, it was just a nonsense word. The text of the article appears to be original research, and should be cut back unless reliable sources can be presented to back up the complex claims about file sharing in Sweden etc. Edison (talk) 18:01, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Mr. Fletcher accepting Sweding
editI saw the movie recently, and I don't believe Mr. Fletcher accepted what Jerry and Mike were doing. They had to disguise the VHS boxes as DVDs. I don't want to make a big fuss, but I just don't want people getting misinformation from Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.15.158.208 (talk) 02:32, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Should 'Sweded' be its own entry?
editSince "Be Kind Rewind" was released, 'sweded' films have entered the cultural mainstream, with several sites and scores of user-generated videos devoted to sweded remakes. They've developed a life of their own, beyond their origins. Sweded should at the very least deserve a section under Fan_film, but I contend that since it's been established that sweded films have enough unique characteristics and restrictions (unedited with only a single take per scene, etc.) to be their own specific type of parody film, that sweded films should get their own entry.
Website mentioned in the film credits
editIn the credits at the end of the film, a website address appears on screen, accompanied with some text saying that the sweded films which appear in the film can be seen at that address. Despite my best efforts, I can't locate the website. Does it exist? Did it ever exist? Should there be some mention of this? Thanks. Mahrooq (talk) 22:07, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
