Talk:Bhadarwahi language

Which spelling?

edit

User:The Ultimate has recently moved this article from Bhadrawahi language to Bhaderwahi. Is there any reason to prefer this spelling? Most of the standard tertiary sources (none of them in-depth) use Bhadrawahi, there's a recently published grammar that spells it Bhadarwahi, but Bhaderwahi is nowhere to be seen. – Uanfala (talk) 22:38, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Clarification

edit

The word Bhaderwahi refers to anything that belongs to Bhaderwah. The suffix i is an indication of the that. Similarly the language spoken in or near by Bhaderwah is also called Bhaderwahi. The actual pronounciation of the word forces us to write it as either Bhadarwahi or Bhaderwahi. If it's written as Bhadrawahi, it completely distorts the real language as I myself am a native speaker of this language. Tough it can be written both as Bhaderwahi or Bhadarwahi but I've preferred Bhaderwahi because it is used mostly when used officially. Below is the link from the official site of Bhaderwah which uses the same spelling throughout. www.bhaderwah.com/history.html Please revert back if you find better explanation of using Bhadrawahi instead of Bhadarwahi or Bhaderwahi and let me know. I'll try to correct, if I may. The Ultimate (talk) 05:42, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

If Bhadrawahi distorts the pronunciation, then it's out (provided there exist alternatives that are equally common in English). So the choice then is between Bhadarwahi and Bhaderwahi. Apart from the observation the latter spelling seems less common in the linguistics literature, I don't have any strong opinions here. – Uanfala (talk) 19:07, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
