editI just put up this page last night, it's my first Wiki entry; Saw the comments re grammar/MOS formatting etc- I'd be very grateful for any specific advice & will continue to read the FAQs etc to come up to speed on said topics, cheersNortSide505 (talk) 20:20, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. Just a quick run through;
- It had too many unsourced opinions. Wikipedia should be neutral and stick to the facts. Let the reader then decide how important/wise/generous he was for themselves.
- The problem with "selected works" links is that Wikipedia is not a links directory, and also it is only your opinion that these are good examples.
- Wikipedia cannot act as its own source, so you need to cite things from other reliable sources], not to other Wikipedia articles.
- The whole U2 thing seems to be overstated and gone over mutiple times. That can't be the only thing he's known for.
- But not a bad start for your first article. :) --Escape Orbit (Talk) 23:13, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Many thanks for feedback,appreciate it very much- fully take your point re opinions etc ( fwiw, I have no direct connection, commercial or ortherwise to anybody/thing mentioned & am just a fan of Bill Graham's writing).
- While I appreciate that Wikipedia is not a links directory, given that this man was an *writer* surely there's logic to including at least a few relevant links? ( Not trying to be glib but if it was (say) Fermat's Last Theorem being discussed, the subject matter is displayed etc?!). I hope it's ok that I've reformatted that section & soft-pedaled it by adding the links as refs <if that's just not WP protocol I fully understand & respect this.>
- Regarding "Wikipedia cannot act as its own source"- again I 'get' this..but I <hope> I've rectified that specific issue now by linking directly to the relevant book citation.
- While it's understandable the U2 connection may seem overinflated & Graham was known for plenty else ( as alluded to via Niall Stokes comments etc), by same token it shouldn't be underestimated and is at the core of the narrative around Grahams' impact on Irish ( & thus global world) culture.
- Can you please point me in the direction of the WK Style Bible ( "MOS Formatting etc)? Sincerely, thank you again for all your direction/advice!!
I've pared down the U2 section & reformatted piece to also emphasize other aspects. NortSide505 (talk) 00:33, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
The synthax & grammar has been cleaned-up a lot. I've read the MOS info, but if anybody has specific pointers re formatting this article, I'd appreciate it!! tnx NortSide505 (talk) 23:46, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
