editIn this article the person is made out to be the historical founder of the Chutia kingdom. This is not true. The story of Birpal was fabricated in sometime around the 19th century and historians have shown great disdain for this legend. As it is explicitly stated here https://doi.org/10.1177/0019464619894134 It is not known for sure when the story of Birpal was made nor when the list of kings was prepared; but at the moment, it is not possible for a scholar like Neog to ascribe them a date earlier than the nineteenth century.12 Scholars therefore questioned the accuracy of the historical information in these accounts and showed great disdain for the related legends.
