Guitar Solo

edit

There should be mention of who played the guitar solo on the MMEB version.

Erm

edit

Erm...there should really be a link to a site which analyses the MEANING of the lyrics. This lyrics HAS got a meaning, but, as "Hotel California" by The Eagles, is very complex and hence likely to be misunderstood (most people do not know that H. C. is about drugs like cocaine) -andy 217.94.165.235 18:23, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

That song is about drugs? Nah! This lyrics HAS got a meaning in a lot of songs are misunderstood.

I always thought that "Go-cart Mozart" referred to a music industry executive who will only release his album if it coincided with the current musical trends. I also thought that the "manager mister" referred to another executive who tells Springsteen he's "got what it takes" and wants to release his music.

Manfred Mann's version

edit

I've dug around looking for the correct lyrics for the chorus. The bands site and most lyrics sites list the lyric as "revved up like a deuce". However Chris Thomson says its "wrapped up" in this link http://www.timesleader.com/mld/timesleader/entertainment/15958281.htm . Thoughts? 58.175.248.3 13:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The link to the timesleader.com article is broken, however this link to an interview with Chris Thompson who came up with the revised lyrics to the Springsteen song, specifically mentions that the lyrics are "revved up like a deuce" not "wrapped up like a deuce," which makes sense considering they are talking about a car. https://www.classicrockrevisited.com/show_interview.php?id=1131 M@ (talk) 05:45, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

On the youtube video you can *see* that he sings "wrapped up". --84.114.227.161 18:36, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, I don't think you can *see* that considering "wrapped" and "revved" use the same mouth shape. M@ (talk) 05:45, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I was curious about the seemingly irrelevant inclusion of the piano diddy, chopsticks, that appears in the MM version. Can anyone illucidate this? Xtophr (talk) 00:30, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article states that "deuce" is commonly misheard, isn't there any supporting evidence that it is mis-sung? Or that perhaps this "ambiguous pronunciation" was done on purpose by the band? I've never met anyone that heard it as "deuce".SpiralArchitect88 (talk) 02:04, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I remember reading once in a book that due to the band being British their singing of "deuce" sounded like "douche" so people often misheard it. I have never seen anything written, though, by Manfred Mann's singing actually telling us which word he actually sung, though.Housewatcher (talk) 05:38, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

It should be noted that in all live versions, Chris pronounces the "deuce" clearly and understandably. Only on the studio recording it sounds like "douche".89.15.237.131 (talk) 11:54, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

According to a few sources I've read there was an issue with the tape head on the original recording that caused some distortion and also prevented them from being able to correct it in post production. M@ (talk) 05:45, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I noticed

edit

Alot of people mislabel this song as being sung by ELO-, from what I've seen and researched, ELO hasnt even covered the song, I think that should be placed in there somewhere, not about the cover, but about it being mislabeled.

The following sentence is in the first paragraph:

While it is commonly believed that the Electric Light Orchestra covered this song, it is merely a misconception based on mislabeling by file sharers.

I think this is sufficient, though it should be sourced somehow. --WillMak050389 20:04, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Really pointless, you'd have to be a retard to think that version is ELO.

Without verifiability, it will not be considered true. --WillMak050389 05:33, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Erase the whole sentence! It is redundant and doesn't make any sense!--Sparviere 00:26, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is silly. I've never known anyone that thinks ELO covers the song. Why is this even in here, because of one anecdote?

No actually i just noticed that it has been mislabeled many times, it is valid. TostitosAreGross 00:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's not valid... ELO didn't do it, Manfred Mann did. Just because some Napster user mislabeled an upload and it was propagated doesn't make it worth citing. kaevans 00:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

One might make the case that both Blinded by the light and Rock 'n' Roll Is King have a similar fast-paced upbeat wah-wah-wah-wah! sound to it, but I guess that settles the similarities. --79.193.123.33 (talk) 22:08, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Vacant Lot" comdey skit

edit

Commonly thought to be a Kids In The Hall skit, the first of six comedy skits from comedy troupe "Vacant Lot" featured a group of guys trying to figure out the lyrics to "Blinded by the Light". Each person present had their own strange concept of what the lyrics should be, making for a very comedic situation as they embarked on a 'karaoke-esque battle of the lyrics'. A transcript (accuracy not confirmed) of the skit can be found at unoriginaltv.com. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.216.246.51 (talk) 21:01, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Wrapped up" v. "Revved up"

edit

From lyrics.wikia.com : "Hello! If you've come here to change "Wrapped up…" to "Revved up…" (as has happened twice before) please consider that the lyric sheet (available on the LP and on the 1998 CD reissue) explicitly states "Wrapped up...", and if you listen closely to the song, you can hear that that's also what Chris Thompson is singing. Thank you!" --Jerome Potts (talk) 12:57, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

This interview with Chris Thompson contradicts this: https://www.classicrockrevisited.com/show_interview.php?id=1131 M@ (talk) 05:49, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It was sourced in the article, see also the comment below. At best, it's unclear and you should not have changed without at least mentioning that the lyric is disputed.[1][2][3]Jules TH 16 (talk) 08:35, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

M@ That interview with Chris is contradictory. He says the original was "cut loose like a goose" (actually, now listening to Springsteen's original it does sound more like "goose" than "deuce"!), he says he was in MMEB since 1979 (he actually joined in 1976), he says he went back and did Criminal Tango after 1987 (the album came out in 1986), the album Solar Fire is called "Soul of Fire" (that may be a transcription issue, but still)... I'm just not sure how much stock I can put into it, especially since the album jacket prints "Wrapped up", Manfred says "Wrapped up" and it also sounds like "Wrapped up" not just on the album, but also several live versions that Chris sang on! Wrong Lyrics

edit

Chris Thompson *may* sing "revved up" now, but his original cover used "wrapped up." You have it wrong. http://teamrock.com/feature/2008-08-23/story-behind-song-blinded-by-the-light-by-manfred-mann-s-earth-band

Did Springsteen continue to perform this song in his concerts?

edit

To add to this article: did Springsteen continue to perform this song in his concerts after 1973, and does he continue to perform it today? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 18:25, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes. See here: https://www.setlist.fm/stats/bruce-springsteen-2bd6dcce.html Interestingly enough though, he didn't play it between 1976 and 1993, which is quite a long period. Jules TH 16 (talk) 20:42, 4 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
