Picture of the day

edit

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Pitta moluccensis - Kaeng Krachan.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on August 27, 2015. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2015-08-27. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Chris Woodrich (talk) 00:19, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

The blue-winged pitta (Pitta moluccensis) is a passerine bird in the family Pittidae native to Australia and Southeast Asia. This small bird, measuring 180 to 205 mm (7.1–8.1 in) in length, is found in a variety of habitats to an altitude of 800 m (2500 ft).Photograph: JJ Harrison
Beautiful! I saw some corrections were needed but hit an edit conflict as someone else had jumped on it. I guess I can see a need for an "In use" template. Otr500 (talk) 11:38, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Breeding

edit

Section is just a full on copy/paste of the cited reference, which is pretty dissapointing. "Breeds at different times" is as vague as just saying "This bird breeds". Needs a clear up, so I shall delve into the sources a bit. Man Over-bored (talk) 13:27, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ha-ha-- I see what you mean. Clean it up! I have never like copy paste even though some have stated it is alright in some instances. I am sure I make mistakes but I strive for a 100% no copy/paste on anything more than a word or two. I have seen this a lot in projects (not birds yet as I haven't looked) where "getting the stub made" seems to be the norm. It is not a bad thing to get coverage but plagiarism is not cool and depending on the site I am sure can be copy/vio. I haven't dug into the article but you will be a hero-for-a-day for improving an article from 2007. Otr500 (talk) 00:40, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Otr500, would you take a look now at the Breeding section and tell us whether it's still a copyvio? I appreciate your opinion and input. Thanks! 108.56.199.37 (talk) 02:17, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@108.56.199.37 much much better, two thumbs up Man Over-bored (talk) 07:35, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I didn't see any problems there. Otr500 (talk) 00:46, 31 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Content

edit
Common names should be at first instance in bold in the lead. In the case of this bird a second lead paragraph, and possibly body content, should reflect that the Blue-winged Pitta has a common name conflict with the common name of the Noisy Pitta, as reflected on that article.
General information; Both parents actively feed their young and both assist in forcing fledging. The Blue-winged Pitta is sometimes considered conspecific with the Mangrove Pitta and Elegant Pitta.
