Manaus is not a southern city
editIn the "Other" section, it is erroneously implied that Manaus is a southern city. Just wanted to point that out, I don't want to touch the text myself to avoid screwing something up.2804:14C:8793:86F6:D0F5:E48D:831C:1AEC (talk) 02:14, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Bahiacarnival3.jpg
editImage:Bahiacarnival3.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Merge
editI agree with the merge of Rio Carnival and Brazilian Carnival. I am from Rio, and I think it would give the reader a broader idea of Brazil's carnival and cultural diversity if people see that carnival is different in every region... --Pinnecco (talk) 10:22, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree as well.--200.186.96.217 (talk) 18:25, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
"The Carnival parades in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo take place in the Sambodromo, located close to the city center." It is indeed fairly near to downtown in Rio, but to say the Anhembi Sambodromo in Sao Paulo is close to the city center (centre?) is stretching it a bit, even by Sao Paulo standards! It's further out than Tiete, on the far side of the Marginal, so really not central at all. There's lots of areas where some clarity would be good between this page and related pages. I agree that a title like "Brazilian Carnval" should embrace and examine the differences and similarities. In Rio and Sao Paulo, there is a big division of interest between sambadrome parades and blocos, but probably important not to get too dismissive of one or the other. They both have deep cultural significance. (By the way, many or even most of the "tourists" at the sambadrome are Brasilian or Brasilian tourists from other cities in Brasil, even if they are far outnumbered by locals who are only interested in blocos and parties. I've never been to a sambadrome performance yet and not been surrounded by Brasilians. Cariocas and Paulistanos do see Carnaval a bit differently. Carnaval in Rio is an important event (and yet another excuse not to work!) but in Sao Paulo it doesn't quite have the same status (or money, or government backing, or, I suspect, cross-class significance). But the samba schools in both cities are active in things like public events (like the "Washing of Niemeyer's Hand" earlier this year or the arts party and exhibition the night before the World Cup kick-off. Many cities have their own carnaval website, some quite developed ("Rio-style", like Ribeirao Preto) or smaller (like Belem, where concerns about security can be a big issue). Links to the various city carnaval pages would seem appropriate. (I'm throwing this in hoping that someone has time to do the editing, which sadly I do not.)Parzivalamfortas (talk) 16:32, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
The title word for this subject is MISSPELLED.
editThe word Carnaval is misspelled here. Carnaval is Brazil's Mardi Gras, known all over the world by that spelling. The Carnival you're referring to is an American word. It refers to something like a County Fair - an entirely different animal. Check it out. Google Carnaval and see what comes up. But don't rely on the Wikipedia listing. They have misspelled the word. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.217.22.172 (talk) 07:53, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
The above comment is entirely correct. It is irksome to see it written 'carnival' although it will mean correcting several wiki pages to designate it properly. Carnival is a popular festival in many countries, but bears little more than passing similarity to Brazilian Carnaval. The Portuguese spelling would, in my opinion, be more appropriate, and less misleading to readers unfamiliar with Brazilian Carnaval and first-time visitors expecting an event on a par with the carnivals of other countries. Perhaps others would like to comment? Parzivalamfortas (talk) 09:56, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Actually if you look up "Carnaval", the first thing that shows up is this page. Every other page I saw that was on topic either used both or just carnival. plus the fact that it says "Brazilian Carnival" makes to where it's distinguished between other carnivals. This is my sole opinion however.
