IRC Network

The page mentions an IRC channel but doesn't say what network. Despite the fact that most people think that their favorite IRC network is the "main" or "standard" network (usually efnet), this isn't true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Uglinessman (talk • contribs)

edit: After digging through the newsgroup on Google Groups, I found out it was Undernet and added that information to the article. reply: As a long time participant in the Callahans IRC channels, I will state that it has MOVED, split, recombined, and otherwise NOT been on one place for it's entire IRC existence - the Undernet version broke into at least 3 versions over a decade ago, at least 2 of which are still active as of the last time I checked about 2 years back.

The best option is to check in the alt.callahans newsgroup for where the current IRC channel/channels are located.

Time Travel(l)ers Strictly Cash

Does anyone know if the spelling "Time Travellers Strictly Cash" has used for actual publication? The spelling "Time Travelers Strictly Cash" (one "l" in "Travelers") seems to be much more common if searched for online, and what I have seen used in the USA for paperback copies of this work. Apart from online bookstore listings for the former (and often showing a cover page featuring the latter), I suspect the spelling should be changed to the latter. - Cerlyn 05:11, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the spelling on the cover is "Time Travelers Strictly Cash" and that is the spelling it's published under. It's went through several reprints with the same title (even with cover art changes) and it's referred as such on Spider Robinson's own web page [1]. --GaidinBDJ (talk) 10:25, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Mike Callahan and other distinguished characters

The individual characters probably wouldn't pass muster when it came to notability. There is an outside wiki on wikia (Full Disclosure: I run it) that could be linked to, but someone already did once on the page and some bot that removed the link to it, so I assume it's, for some reason, not acceptable by community standards. Jake Stonebender bio

The bio for Jake Stonebender is slightly wrong. He did install brakes on the car himself, and his family did die in a brake-related accident, but in one of the stories it is revealed that the brakes that failed were not the ones he installed. (I don't remember if it's front or rear brakes he installed, and rear or front that failed.) Perhaps the word blame could be included; he blames himself for the failure of the brake failure that caused the accident that killed them. Front brakes were the ones that actually failed. Jake installed the rear brakes and the accident report reflected it because he was so eager(?) to take the blame and there was nepotism involved as the person to investigated the accident was related to the person who installed the front brakes. Mary explains this to Jake after she goes back and actually witnesses the accident.

However, the fact that he believed he killed them is pretty much one of the most defining traits of his character for three books, the actual events are (relatively) unimportant. --GaidinBDJ (talk) 10:32, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Removing tags "Unreferenced" and "Notability" from December 2008

Per Wikipedia:NOTOR#Works of fiction, the works of fiction themselves are the "references" for the characters and events therein. (You don't need a secondary source to verify what anyone reading the books can see for themselves.) As for notability: these are the best-known works of Spider Robinson, a Hugo and Nebula and Campbell award winning author, and include his first professional (sold and published) short-story; in 1977 the American Library Association named Callahan's Crosstime Saloon a Best Book for Young Adults; and the premise of the long-running newsgroup alt.callahans is based on the series — participants role-play that they are in the saloon together.
