editIt seems that the character "Don Croce Malo" in Mario Puzo's novel The Sicilian is very clearly based on this person. I can not, however, neither deny nor verify this from any reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.155.209.72 (talk) 17:38, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- "Croce Malo" is almost certainly an expansion of "C.....alo," but that belongs here on the Talk page and not in the article.Tapered (talk) 21:04, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Lead section
editRecent reversions of the edit regarding Calo's involvement in narcotics are POV and counterproductive. The assertion that he was a major trafficker in dope, with 2 verifications in the References, complete negates the suggestion that the Don was not making money from criminal behavior--hence the edit is important. Also, editors cannot simply label an assertion "unsubstantiated" if its reliably sourced in the references. Tapered (talk)
- His involvement was never proven before a court of law and is unsubstantiated, hence the use of reportedly. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. - DonCalo (talk) 16:14, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- Early on the article uses the word "legendary." And how much of the rest of the article and assertions about DC were/have been proven in a court of law? There's a double-standard of editing in use here. Tapered (talk) 16:22, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- I already explained the use of the word legendary in the lead to you in May 2012. There is no double standard. - DonCalo (talk) 16:31, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Reverted "legendary" again and added Calo's 'rap sheet' to blunt the grand sounding language at the end of the Lead. Also added a new reference/link. Needed to be added in any event since quite a bit of the Lead is taken verbatim from the lacndb website. Tapered (talk) 21:03, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- Removed incorrect addition. Vizzini a peasant? You must be joking, he probably never ever planted one grain of wheat in his life. The "legendary" refers to the legend as described in the article. The Lacndb website copied the text from Wikipedia, not the other way around. - DonCalo (talk) 15:05, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- The "Early Years" of the article describes him as the son of a peasant. Until he attained wealth, his life dovetails almost perfectly with Popkin's "rational peasant" paradigm. Facts don't become incorrect or correct simply by fiat.Tapered (talk) 16:32, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- In stead of patronizing me start learning to read: his father was a peasant, but managed to marry into a slightly more well-off family that owned some land. In other words Vizzini was not a peasant, which, moreover is abundantly clear in the rest of the article. I strongly start to suspect that you are making edits because I have some strong objections against the mess you made of Salvatore Giuliano and are thinking that you now can get back at me adding incorrect information to this article. - DonCalo (talk) 17:24, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
The ending of the lead before the addition of the Barzini reference was large-scale weasel wording. Grand language about "love" for a career criminal who bullied and murdered his way to prominence is incongruous--as an ending to a lead. Tapered (talk) 03:42, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- To clarify: the rhetoric of the funeral eulogy is at variance with the content of the article. It's a disguised way to obscure the the central fact of Vizzini's life--he was a violent career criminal. Tapered (talk) 04:54, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
The lead is a summary to the article, see WP:LEAD not to enter into more detailed information. Your quote of Barzini is very useful and has been incorporated in the text, but putting it into the lead is not conform to MOS. I also added a sentence to try to accomodate your worries, which does not only refer to Barzini but to the broader content of the article, in particular his crminal dossier. - DonCalo (talk) 09:47, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
