Talk:Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?

I wonder if this movie has the record for having the longest title, i.e., the most words in the title. I know when I play charades, and act out "movie" and "11 words" ... it's not hard for the others to guess the movie title right away. (I remember seeing the movie years ago in a theatre, and I was the only one who seemed to enjoy it.)Que-Can (talk) 23:27, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am British, was born in 1950 and have never heard of UK newspapers refusing ads as a matter of course for 'X' certificate films in the 1960s. In fact, I am sure I remember seeing ads for the movie on the London Underground, which was and is very conservative in what it allowed. I think this may be a misunderstanding - the UK 'X' certificate was not equivalent to the US 'X' certificate. --Thejohnfleming 17:54, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Spelling of title

edit

While the name "Hieronymus" is usually spelled with i before e -- as in the painter Hieronymus Bosch -- Anthony Newley chose to spell his protagonist's name with e before i, as "Heironymus." (For evidence, see the film's poster).

I have changed the spelling throughout this article to the correct spelling; but the title of the article should change as well. This probably means creating a new page with the correctly spelled title, and a redirect from the misspelled title (which has links to other articles).

The above note by 216.156.138.2 dates from 21 July 2010.

As noted above, the film poster does use the "Hei" spelling.
"Hei" is confirmed by Roger Ebert's review and by the first edition of Leslie Halliwell's Film Guide.

Main character's given name

edit

The IMDb currently gives it as "Heironymous" [sic] with an extra 'o'. Both English and French WP had duplicated this.
Presumably this is just a simple error. The name is a Latin version of Jerome and so should have the ending "us", generally speaking.

Commercial failure

edit

Surprising that the film is described as a commercial failure when it made 4 times its budget in US and Canada alone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.48.101.31 (talk) 21:59, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
