editRemoved these from the Bibliography section because they were not authored by Reiner. They may belong in the article elsewhere. Someone what to put them in their proper place? - Christopher Poole 76.180.192.63 (talk) 01:50, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Whatever happened to that new CGI 'Alan Brady Show' thing coming to TV Land or whatever, that was meant to actually show us what the show we never saw was like? Did they cancel that? I believe Carl Reiner was going to voice his character..
Considering that Reiner's work lately has ranged from barely tolerable to just plain awful perhaps someone realized that it's a bad idea. He was a talented man, but it's all gone. Saxophobia 02:33, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
The dates of birth of his children Rob and Annie are wrong, I believe, but there are too many conflicting sources. Apparently, Rob Reiner was born in 1945 (not 1947, as had previously been listed) while Annie Reiner was born in 1947 (not 1949, as had previously been listed). Check out http://www.hollywood.com/celebrity/Rob_Reiner/195555#fullBio and the info on Carl Reiner's bio: http://www.eonline.com/celebrities/profile/index.jsp?uuid=7ef7edbc-4d0e-4c5d-9288-68a7f6dd9c93. Even IMDB had the information wrong, and now they're checking it out, too.Nbirnbach 21:12, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
As someone who grew up with Rob and Annie Reiner, I believe they were born in 1947 and 1949 respectively. I was born in 1949. Rob was two years ahead of me at Beverly Hills High School and Annie and I were in the same class at George M. Davis Jr. Elementary School and graduated from Beverly together in 1967.
I would like to clear up this confusion. Woody Allen never wrote for Caesar's Hour. Woody Allen and Larry Gelbart teamed up to write a Sid Caesar special AFTER Caesar's Hour was cancelled. To the best of my knowlege, that's the extent of Woody Allen's connection with Sid Caesar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.43.115.214 (talk) 17:31, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Wife's birthday
editThe birthdate for his wife under his picture is definitly incorrect. I do not have the correct date. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GusgusMadrona (talk • contribs) 09:05, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Main Photo
editWhy's the main photo so old (from -76)? There's one from 2011 so why's that not the "main" one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.154.7.166 (talk) 15:03, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- Mostly because this is a biography, not a news story. It's considered more useful to show how he looked during his prime career years. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 17:38, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- It's very useless indeed, but that's what Wikipedia does. --88.193.139.103 (talk) 07:51, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

editWhy do you keep reverting this page, MarnetteD? --2600:8800:3982:3EC0:194E:E87A:2510:F53C (talk) 20:26, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- Because your edits violate the WP:MOS. MarnetteD|Talk 20:27, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
How do they violate? I was just trying to fix it up. --2600:8800:3982:3EC0:194E:E87A:2510:F53C (talk) 20:35, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

- Nope - inappropriate changes like that are WP:DISRUPTIVE. MarnetteD|Talk 20:46, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- I don't see anything wrong with changing "|birth_date = {{birth date and age|1922|3|20|95}}" to "|birth_date = {{birth date and age|1922|3|20}}". The last parameter, 95, is ignored. Reiner's age depends on the current date and his birth date. It would defeat the purpose of the template to hard code his age into the source. Strawberry4Ever (talk) 21:23, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- I've made that edit because I think it's a good one, although it doesn't change what appears on the page. I realize that when an editor mixes good, bad and indifferent changes in the same edit it's easier to revert the entire edit instead of figuring out what to keep. I'm having the same problem with 2600:8800:3982:3EC0:194E:E87A:2510:F53C's edits on Garry Shandling. I've been trying to fix problems as I find them instead of reverting everything that was changed. Yiddish name
editReiner is US-born. Why is his name given in Yiddish in the lead? Do we have any evidence that he used that form of his name? The rest of the article says nothing about Yiddish. His autobiography I Remember Me only even uses the word "Yiddish" once, talking about someone else's accent. Now, it it likely that Yiddish was spoken around him? Sure. But that's not a reason to give his name in Yiddish in the article. We also don't give Mike Dukakis's name in Greek. --Macrakis (talk) 18:51, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
"Education" in infobox misleading?
editThe Education field in the infobox says Reiner went to Georgetown University, which would lead one to believe that he matriculated into a degree program there, but that is not the case. He was sent to Georgetown by the Army Air Force during World War II for a 10 month language program. It was common during the war for the military to use the existing resources at colleges and universities (which saw major enrollment drops during the war) for advanced training of servicemen, but it seems misleading to prominently claim in an infobox that the university itself was the person's "education" 74.213.48.38 (talk) 17:05, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
Carlton Reiner
editA few editors over the years have added "Carlton Reiner" as Reiner's birth name to this page, but I am 99% sure it is not accurate. This source was eventually offered up but I am certain it is WP:CIRCULAR as it was published while the Wikipedia article said Carlton (unsourced as usual). I am unable to find any other verification of "Carlton", and Reiner himself says his full name is simply "Carl Reiner" in this interview (which, funnily enough is one of the sources for this full name in the article already...). Nohomersryan (talk) 18:51, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Just to add on, the origin of Carlton Reiner is this IP edit from April 2016 (no new source was provided for this change). I remember this because I came across the page in February 2017 and noticed it, and couldn't find a single source after quite a lot of searching, so I took it out after finding "Carl Reiner" as the birth name from the horse's mouth. If you have a source that says "Carlton" that doesn't predate April 2016, it's highly likely it was cribbed from this page, since 10 months is not an insignificant amount of time for something like that to stay up. - His WWII draft card from 1942 gives his name as Carl K. Reiner. Not a reliable source, I know. (Source here, subscription-only.) Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:55, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Apologies for adding it to the page, although I did source an ABC TV station thinking it was reliable, no harmful intentions. Cheers, —Jonny Nixon (talk) 17:03, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- It's fine. It gave me an opportunity to write about it somewhere other than an edit summary, after all.Nohomersryan (talk) 04:31, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

The article looks much better now
editI filled in a lot of citations for his career. BTW, this article in Variety gives a larger picture of his career than the one presented here. There are also book treatments that discuss his impact on television comedy. We also need to reference this text:
After the series ended its run, his first film feature was an adaptation of Joseph Stein's play Enter Laughing (1967), which, in turn, was based on Reiner's semi-autobiographical 1958 novel of the same name.
- IMO this is just about ready for the Main Page. Yoninah (talk) 02:13, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Done Found the cite for the above text. Yoninah (talk) 11:22, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Top read
editThe article is now the most read on this Wikipedia – well done, everyone. But no thanks to ITN, in which editors are now edit warring to shut down discussion of whether it should appear "In the News". Andrew🐉(talk) 13:58, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nive inflamatory language: there was no need for you to take such a crass sep as to re-open a closed discussion. As you are aware - or should be as it's been explained to you in very simple language on several occasions - ITN is not there to host popular articles, regardless of whether you think your opinion should count more or not. If you had spent time adding references to the article - and yes, great thanks to the many people who did just that, including many from ITN, the article may have been in a good enough shape to go on the MP. But you didn't bother until it was way too late, and spent your time sniping at others instead. Excellent work. - SchroCat (talk) 14:40, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- The ITN close was invalid as the topic is not stale. Fortunately, that process is unimportant because most readers go straight to the article and so are blissfully unaware of whether it has a blurb or is listed at RD. Andrew🐉(talk) 15:43, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- So why the big dramh show? Is there any need for the constant grandstanding on points that are irrelevant to the ITN process? If you don't like the process ignoring the reader numbers, start an RfC to change it, rather than being pointy at ITN and as you have been here. It's all just too tiresome. - SchroCat (talk) 15:51, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Father of the Pride is mentioned a lot
editI'm not a Wikipedia editor so don't feel comfortable updating this myself, but I noticed that a second rate animated film from 2003 managed to get four mentions in this article, including two in the section about his death. For a man with such a long and well-colored career, this throwaway movie seems like it's overrepresented. 172.58.44.55 (talk) 13:54, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- It's a TV series, not a film. That said, I've removed the mention from the lead as it doesn't seem particularly WP:DUE there. The other mentions seem more reasonable, but if you have a specific concern at this point, let me know. DonIago (talk) 00:40, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
