Ceylon can mean many different times of the history of Sri Lanka, so please do not revert this page because the reader can find out which Ceylon the article is talking about on the Ceylon (disambiguation) page.--Blackknight12 (talk) 11:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please review what you wrote: "Ceylon can mean many different times in the history of Sri Lanka." Aside from the fact that you seem to be stating that "Ceylon" refers to "Sri Lanka", there is also an extensive history section in the Sri Lanka article with an extra link to History of Sri Lanka. And there is a link at the top of the Sri Lanka article referring editors to the Ceylon (disambiguation) page if it isn't the article they want. Last month, there were about ten times as many hits to the Ceylon redirect than to the disambiguation page, implying that at least 90% of the people who look up "Ceylon" are happy with the article Sri Lanka. Can you point out any links to "Ceylon" that are incorrect if they point to Sri Lanka instead of another article? Dekimasuよ! 14:37, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, since the beginning of 2002, this has been a redirect to Sri Lanka for all but a month. I've asked for input from WikiProject Disambiguation. Dekimasuよ! 14:49, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Agree with Dekimasu. Without some better evidence, common sense indicates Sri Lanka as offering the best context for understanding the historical terms. olderwiser 15:51, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I agree that Sri Lanka is the primary usage of "Ceylon". Many countries have had varying boundaries over the centuries, but we don't let that stop us from using the common name of the country to point to the article about the current country, either as the name of the article or as a redirect from another term for which the country is the primary usage, as here. I would have thought that more or less everyone seeking info on Celon would be happy to be redirected to the currect article Sri Lanka. Abtract (talk) 23:37, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Those numbers are closer together than the ones I remember seeing, too. It seems like I must have been looking at the March or April statistics (which were 10:1) rather than the June ones. Dekimasuよ! 01:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
