Hi Badagnani,
I found that the Oriya charchari contains diced potatoes. The Oriya version can also contain shrimp also. It is cooked in mustard sauce, not fried mustard as in the Bengali version. Obviously it IS different from the Bengali version and I was wrong. Frankly, I was very surprised to find that out. I removed the part that I had added to this article.

If someone has a great Bengali dictionary, we could use the actual etymology of this word, when it was first coined, etc. This documentation can't be found on the Internet. Badagnani21:17, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
