Please visit the following link http://www.annauniv.edu/ChemicalEgg/program.php It is the official page for Department of Chemical Engineering at Anna University(www.annauniv.edu). The page talks about Chemfluence under the heading "Chemfluence'08 Print" Therefore I would like to affirm that the page should stay as Chemfluence is not a festival as described and I quote "of no real assertion of notability" Also http://www.svce.ac.in/departments/chemicalengg/depnews.php is the a link from the site of a college called "Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering" (wiki link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Venkateswara_College_of_Engineering)The page talks about Students from the college winning events held as part of Chemfluence. The word "Chemfluence" occurs 9 times in the above link. Also the print media links provided stand as proof for the fact that the event has been held each year. Also Chemfluence as an event is one of a kind organized to improve student quality and also provide academic and industrial exposure at the same time to Chemical Engineers of India. Chemfluence'11 has expanded beyond just a 3 day festival. There have been 5 lectures organized during the academic year. (please refer to www.chemfluence.com and click on to the "Lectures" tab for more info). The counter in the official website of Chemfluence is about to hit 2500 visitors and it stands testimony to the fact that the festival is "noted". For the above reasons I believe the page should stay as part of Wikipedia.
- I'm sorry. Those are still not reliable third party sources (Also, if you read the last line in the Anna University link you gave me, it clearly states that it is a fete. fete=festival). Having the name come up nine times in a another random college is still not an assertion to notability. Neither is the number of hits to the site - Amog | Talk • contribs 20:18, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
- It is a Techno Management Festival and thats the first line of the wiki description. The college is not random. It was founded by SPIC group of companies (one of the doyens of Chemical Engineering Industry in India)
- The page also contains many references from the English daily "The Hindu" It is of course a third party source
Here is the problem - most of our symposiums (i say "our" because, i am an alumnus of AU main campus, so i know what exactly chemfluence is) don't meet the current wikipedia criteria for notability. the current criteria requires significant indepth independent coverage in multiple reliable sources (like the Hindu) for an event to become notable. I know we invite the press to our technical events and they put them in the engagements/ in chennai page. such listings don't count as indepth coverage in wikipedia. As it stands now - this report is the only significant coverage the event has had. If there had been more like this, i can make an argument for keeping this article, but with a single reference, i dont think this stands a chance of surviving an AfD (a deletion discussion in wikipedia, where people discuss whether to delete a particular article or not).
This is one of the better written college festival pages in Wikipedia and i hate to see this go, but the en wiki notability bar is set high. What can be done is a three line inclusion in the main AC tech article under a separate "technical symposiums" heading.--Sodabottle (talk) 03:32, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that it is a well written article. I think I will remove the G4 deletion request, because I can't be sure it is identical to what was previously deleted. I propose a merge with this and the parent article. Also, I stand by what I said about svce being a random college. I study there :) - Amog | Talk • contribs 08:48, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Chemfluence page should not be deleted
editChemfluence is a annual inter colligiate. The very reputed newspaper in India "The Hindu" has covered the event and this has been shown as the citation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Athinthra89 (talk • contribs) 16:57, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
The event since its inception has always served as a very good platform for the young engineers across the nation. The event name is listed 855 times (searches found) in google when given a search.Such a search count is not possible for a word which is newly formed by merging two words(Chemfluence=Chemical + influence). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.247.231.133 (talk) 17:02, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
The article should not be merged
editThe event should not be merged with the parent page because the event has become diversified after its inception.Started with just Paper and Poster Presentation events, it has right now grown to heights with 12 events as a festival with a number of spot events which are not listed in the website. The Festival serves as a good arena for the Chemical Engineering Students in the area to exhibit their talents. It is one of the major Chemical Engineering technical festival of South India with hundreds of Participants. http://www.indianoilexpress.com/PrintNews.aspx?pType=1&NewsID=8103&NewsTypeID=2 This is the article which came in the in house magazine of Indian Oil which is called Indian oil express.I hope this article will prove a good source and there is no necessity for Indian oil to publish it in their magazine if its something small. And Presence of technical giants like Mr.R.K.Ghosh and Mr.K.Balachandran will prove you that it is not a ordinary symposium. With two eminent speakers from Academics and Two speakers from industry the event promises a lot for everyone each and every year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srvna1990 (talk • contribs) 15:19, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
- Srvna, Wikipedia's notability criteria significantly differs from what you are describing - please read WP:N. This is an encyclopedia, not an industry journal-Sodabottle (talk) 15:39, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
The Chemfluence page should not be merged
editChemfluence is not just another tech fest, it has garnered the attention of eminent industrialists and big companies over years just becuase of the fact that it nurtures budding chemical engineers, the event attracts 200-300 participants each year and students from all parts of the country participate in the event just to get its aura and to compete with thier mates and you can always imagine the fierce competition when the best brains in the country come to battle out thier raw talent. So such an event needs much more recognition than just being a part of the parent site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prash bmw (talk • contribs) 15:51, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
