What is to done with redirections and naming clashes?

edit

At the moment, typing in Chester City to the find box takes one to this article (Chester City F.C.) via a redirection. The problem is that the local government district/borough is called "Chester City", although its wikipedia article was incorrectly created under the name of City of Chester (see the district council page where the word "council" is appended just because the page is primarily to do with the council, as well as the county council page which also uses the form "Chester City".) I did think that the redirection page could just be switched to point to City of Chester prior to some sort of renaming of City of Chester, but too many links to Chester City are meant to be links to Chester City F.C.. Could I ask people on here what they would prefer to do? My thoughts are that first, there needs to be a concerted effort to change all the links to Chester City so that the redirection is avoided. I'm going to start to do that, since this fits in with other moves I have seen elsewhere on wikipedia about avoiding redirections if possible. Then the next step can be discussed. Any comments?  DDStretch  (talk) 00:05, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok - I have now edited all links to Chester City (when the football club is intended) so that they go directly to Chester City F.C.. Given that no comments have been received, I'll now change Chester City into a disambiguation page.  DDStretch  (talk) 10:30, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Note about tense

edit

I feel it is worth a note to remind users that amid the expulsion from the BLue Square premier league, Chester City is not wound up, and the petition hearing on the 10 March may not result in the winding up of the club. For now, please keep the intro events in the present tense. Thanks! --Marianian(talk) 17:04, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

TROLL → Dancarney

edit

This user is a persistent vandal of this page removing valid material citing spurious reasons like Original Research or notability. I ask all valid editors and those that "care" about the reputation of Chester City F.C. to be mindful of this troll and Rules lawyer. So far Dancarney contributions have been entirely deletist and unhelpful.

If you love your club make sure that things are in "good faith" and "referenced". Chester was a small club but it had a fair number of notable players that went on to bigger things, were fans favourites and loyal club members. You could add Gary Talbot and Stuart Rimmer too. But where would it all end!? These were all good players for a lower division club.

Remember if Dancarney keeps doing this give them stick on their discussion page as they are probably a friend of the Vaughans!! [Spit...] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.169.5.116 (talk) 15:34, 8 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that, very civil. Unfortunately, a "notable players" section needs a third-party definition of what makes them notable. A good example can be found on the featured article, Gillingham F.C.. Here, there is a link to an article detailling GFC players notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia page (List of Gillingham F.C. players). It then goes on to detail players included in the Gillingham F.C. Hall of Fame, in which a third party has defined notability in relation to a player's contribution for the club. Just because a player is capped at international level does not make them a notable player for a club. This was the criteria used in the Chester City section (according to an editor's edit summary, a detail never mentioned in the article) and yet at least two of the players were never full internationals. It is only really of note if a player was capped whilst on Chester's books, which several of these definitely were not. Aside from this, the section is unreferenced. Requested Move

edit

Please see Talk:Chester F.C. (2010); I have requested that Chester F.C. (2010) be moved to Chester F.C., which currently redirects here. --Pretty Green (talk) 09:02, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Roberto Martinez referenced in international players?

edit

While Roberto Martinez undoubtably has international experience managing Belgium, is this the wrong section for this reference? Also, added the missing Iain Jenkins and Andy Holden to the table of international players. ByDarren (talk) 15:01, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
