Cleanup
editdid some cleanup to sloppy phrasing/poor grammar/a number of run-on sentences in opening paragraph. also fixed up some info - for instance, there was a sentence in there stating pretty much erroneously that "baker was in and out of jail for much of his life" - he definitely had periods in his life through which he was in and out of jail, but "much of his life" is undoubtedly an exaggeration. also changed the term singer to vocalist as it not only reads better, but is more accurate/technical in Chet's case.
Cameo
editChet made a cameo appearance 1n 1963 in a movie called Stolen Hours. It stared Susan Hayward and was directed by Daniel Petrie. Distributed by United ArtistsBakerbob65 (talk) 08:50, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Marriage?Personal Life?
editMost people on wikipedia have a personal life section. Did Chet not marry? One mention of one ex-wife? Is that all we know? Veryscarymary (talk) 16:46, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
Personal life section is now there, but it's too "divorced" from the rest of the article. One friend is mentioned as having an on again off again relationship and staying with him til the end of his his life, yet another woman is considered his common law wife from the same time period, and then not even mentioned in the main body of the article, just in the personal life section. This needs some revision. Deliusfan (talk) 14:31, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- I agree that the personal life section should be woven in with his career.
- I can't find a viable source saying Ruth Young was his common-law wife anywhere. If we're being generous with that title, he seemingly had a "'common-law wife' in every port." His relationship with Young was certainly significant and features heavily in Let's Get Lost, but that biopic is highly sensational. The de Valk bio describes their relationship kind of fizzling out in the early 1980s but I'd have to go back and check.
- What is known is that Baker was, by law, married to Carol Jackson from 1964 to the end of his life. While mostly on the road in Europe later in his life, he visited his family every now and then when in the States. During the 70s and 80s, Diane Vavra acted as his companion, though to what extent she helped with his career and needs, I'm not sure
- While I'm on this note the Ruth Young (singer) page seems like a problem to me. It mostly only references her connection to Baker (and name drops Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, which feels silly) rather than talks about her own artistry or career. The references are from her own website, Let's Get Lost, and Lastfm, and even a review of her album mentions Baker right away. But I guess this is another discussion for another Talk page Purplybunny (talk) 12:00, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Teeth
editIf Chet lost a tooth 1966, why a recording can be found on youtube from 1964 which shows a missing tooth? Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ybMVHeJZ7w — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.99.150.206 (talk) 14:45, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Apparently he lost a tooth as a kid, before he lost more teeth in the attack. Or so he says in the Born to be Blue film. Deliusfan (talk) 14:33, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- I was wondering about exactly that; I love that song and that video, and was puzzled by his dentition. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 16:12, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- I believe the Deep in a Dream biography mentions he lost a tooth as a kid. Here are some more photos of his missing front tooth from the 50s. Unrelated to 1966 incident.
- The de Valk biography claims that in 1966 the punch broke part of another tooth, and eventually his teeth deteriorated and he needed dentures by as early as late '68 Purplybunny (talk) 11:49, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
The other John Engels
editThe Dutch drummer John Engels is mentioned, but his name incorrectly links to the American poet of the same name. I’m not sure how to fix this, surely someone can help?
Unfortunately, the page about drummer John Engels is not available in English, but still … Jacobus.nl (talk) 23:49, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- Jacobus.nl – I have had a try. I am not sure that it is quite right yet but it is better than it was: it now links to nl:John Engels. Maybe someone else can improve on what I have tried? Hope this helps, best wishes, DBaK (talk) 00:50, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- Update: I have had another try and it now reads "John Engels (in Dutch)" which seems quite good to me. What do you think? Jacobus.nl? Anyone? Cheers DBaK (talk) 23:35, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- I changed it to use Template:Interlanguage link Purplybunny (talk) 11:42, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
