"The Irish service differs from the UK-based service in that it does not give advice and instead is promoted as a listening service." - This is inaccurate - the UK service DOES NOT give advice. Will edit article accordingly jdan 22:59, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
From a technical, telecoms point of view, could any information be added about Childline's anomalously short phone number? 86.136.0.228 12:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nothing much to say. The minimum for an STD number requires 8 figures, and 1111 is quickest to dial on a rotary/pulse 'phone. So it was chosen as the quickest (and most memorable) Freefone number. Rapido 14:17, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
The "real" ChildLine number is actually 0800 111 111 (six 1s not 4). However, BT (who donated the number -- it was originally a test number for telephone engineers) also set up an automatic divert so that calls on the shorter 1111 could go through. There is nothing to be gained by dialling the six ones, though -- callers still end up in the same queue.

Free on mobiles
editThe article says that most mobile phone networks don't charge for phonecalls to ChildLine, but which networks do? J Ditalk 20:20, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- According to their website, it's free from all UK mobile networks. I'll change the article accordingly. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 08:47, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Childline.jpg
editImage:Childline.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:31, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
This paragraph seems a bit out of place
editSome of the second paragraph in the "UK Operations" section does not read like an encyclopedia article. For example, "The tragedy of child abuse is that..." feels to me more like something from a promotional leaflet or magazine article, and "if a problem is important to children and young people, it is important to ChildLine" seems like a slogan more than anything. I'm all in favour of ChildLine's operations, but Wikipedia is not here to promote them, rather to describe them. I'm too tired to edit reliably now, but I hope someone else can clean up this paragraph. Loganberry (Talk) 01:00, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Online discussion
editI don't think it mentions anywhere that you can contact childline throught Childline.ie - People can leave a public message, or a privite message all of which will be answered buy childline within 4 days. There is also a 1 to 1 were you can talk diectly to a member of childline. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.25.7 (talk) 10:43, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
You can also contact ChildLine on the UK website childline.org.uk - where you can send private or public messages and have real-time chats with a counsellor.
Also could the UK phone number 0800 1111 or European phone number 116 111 please be listed in the main article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.31.13.5 (talk) 15:23, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation
editThis article refers specifically to Childline in the United Kingdom. However, there are many Childlines operational throughout the world, for example Childline South Africa. I'd like to recommend creating a disambiguation for this article, or renaming this article to Childline (United Kingdom) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.215.223.160 (talk) 14:54, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
- When there are 3 or more "Childline" articles, Childline (disambiguation) should be created and a hatnote to it put at the top if this article. If and when there is no clearly "most well known" organization using the name "Childline" then this page can be renamed as you suggest and the disambiguation page moved to this title. As an example of a case where the most well-known entity gets to use the "main" name, see George Washington and George Washington (disambiguation). See Wikipedia:Disambiguation for more on how such pages work. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:26, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

0800 1111 was one of the first 0800 numbers to be issued in the United Kingdom.
editNo it wasn't. It might have been one of the first 8 digit 0800 numbers (the other well known one being the former NHS direct service). 81.187.1.83 (talk) 14:08, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
