Chithira Thirunal → Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma – 'Balarama Varma' is the unique given name. 'Chithira Thirunal' is the title assumed by Balarama Varma upon coronation. There can be many kings/princes in the royal family with title 'Chithira Thirunal'. All those royal members who were born on the star 'Chitra' (Spica) can assume this title. Please change to 'Chithira Thirual Blarama Varma' which is the unique identifier. In Kerala History and official references also, he is referenced as 'Sree Chithira Thirual Balarama Varma' only.

- Comment. He appears to be the only one called Chithira Thirunal, the only one for whom we have an article, and commonly known to history simply as Chithira Thirunal. -- Necrothesp (talk) 07:55, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- We study about him in Kerala history as Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. In our lessons we clearly study that he assumed the title 'Chithira Thirunal' only on his coronation. Moreover, 'Chithira Thirual' is not his name, it was never a name. It is only a honorary title assumed, as per his royal traditions. This is similar to the article Charles, Prince of Wales where his name is followed by a position or title. In similar lines, we should name this article as Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma or Balarama Varma, Chithira Thirunal. Removing Balarama Varma wil be like removing 'Charles' from the title of the article Charles, Prince of Wales.

Improvement suggestions
editI've rated the article as Start Class. This article takes an overly self-serving tone. Take a neutral take on all sections of article, and add third party sources. Learn from articles like Napoleon. Include sections explaining in detail his early life, education, faimly, his career, accession, his reigns as Maharaja, his take on different issues, other monarch's opinion of him, rivalries, controversies, criticisms and allegations, bibliography, legacy etc etc.
Article also needs a lot of wikilinks and better formatting (though I've made some cleanups). Lead Section needs to be developed. Its not a bad start. Hope to see it climb up the quality scale and serve the readers well. --Fasi100 (talk) 11:51, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- @India142 I'm not good at explaining stuff, but let me try. I labeled it as an Ad mainly because of the bullet list in this section: Chithira_Thirunal_Balarama_Varma#Major_Reforms_and_Contributions. This is not a brochure for political campaign so you can't name each and every project. The projects should be summed up in categories e.g. health, education, industry etc. And of course, you can mention and explain a couple of really substantial and significant projects. Other random things that I can think of right now are:
- Blatant use of honorifics and titles again and again. Just mention it in infobox, then address the personality by his name.
- The Titles section list should be made into a paragraph, explaining the progression of his career. Currently it uses the His Highness Sri Padmanabha Dasa Vanchipala Sir Balarama Varma III, Kulasekhara Kiritapati Manney Sultan Maharaja Raja Ramaraja Bahadur, Shamsher Jang, Maharaja of Travancore, GCIE string again and again.
- Regarding Honors sections, ribbon images are not preferred in Biography articles. They are meant for articles dedicated to a list of civil/military decorations of a country/empire.
- In Later years section, a whole paragraph from V.P. Menon's book is quoted. This falls under WP:PLAG. A Wikipedia writer's job is to extract content from diverse sources and present in a new, readable and balanced form.
- The Lead Section is non-existent in this article. Please go through WP:LEAD and compose a lead section for the article.
- There can be a grand section explaining his political ideology, social ideology, stance on different ideological issues that aroused in that era, alliances, political/physical battles blah blah... (Go through featured articles of other monarchs, you will find many ideas.)
- Criticism: Lastly, find people who opposed, criticized or alleged this personality in their writings. And get their point of view on this article. Also, what people outside his state thought of him, what the British Raj used to think of him, how he is remembered today etc etc.
- I hope I was able to identify some flaws in the article. Kindly go through WP:5 and WP:ISNOT. The goal should be to describe all aspects his life, not his achievements. --Fasi100 (talk) 16:44, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

I had applied for a rating for this article. Made changes to the article as suggested by the user Fasi100 who rated this article. I have added additional citations & developed lead section, removed the bullet list in the Major Reforms section, edited the whole article to make it neutral, created section "Criticism and Allegations", cleaned up the titles para etc.-- India142 (talk) 11:04, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Sadly after 7 years still so much unnecessary political details giving minor political warlords the time and space they don't deserve. Angry bee (talk) 15:09, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Please Make this encyclopaedic
editCan some one make this page stand up to encyclopaedic standards. Need much copy edit. Many sections in the top are unsourced and too long. ChandlerMinh (talk) 12:38, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
