Is Chitina a ghost town?
editI'd say so; I live 20 miles from it. It's an abandoned mining town. There is a tiny Native village up on a hill, separate from the ghost town.
"It quickly became a ghost town, and eventually even had ‘ghosts’ painted on several of the abandoned buildings." From Sue and Lance Gilpatrick's Hotel site.
Gail Niebrugge calls a painting "The Ghost Town of Chitina."
"In 1938, Kennecott shut the mine. The train stopped running. Chitina became a ghost town." From Art Koeniger's site. Yopienso (talk) 17:20, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Actually, when I was growing up and visited there most summers from some time in the 1950s to the late 1970s, I can remember pictures of ghosts painted on some of the buildings. I don't have a link to something on the Internet to back this up, but for whoever wants to research it, I can attest to the fact. Terry Thorgaard (talk) 19:07, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
