Hour of Death - contradiction or not?

edit

In the first sentence of the Scholarly Debate section, I am removing the second part of the sentence (bold)

The estimation of the hour of the death of Jesus based on the New Testament accounts has been the subject of debate among scholars for centuries, since there was a clear contradiction between the accounts in the Synoptic Gospels and that in the Gospel of John.[156]

This statement is factually wrong and disagrees with the source cited further above which states

all four Gospels agree that Jesus died a few hours before the commencement of the Jewish Sabbath, i.e. he died before nightfall on a Friday (Matt 27:62; 28:1; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John 19:31, 42).

I speculate that some Wikipedia editor wanted to say that the date of Jesus' death appears discrepant in the gospels (Nisan 14 vs Nisan 15), but then confused it with the hour of Jesus' death where there is no discrepancy. But since I cannot be certain what the editor had in mind, it is best to delete the mistake and then hope the editor will return to this sentence and rewrite it correctly. 31.49.196.235 (talk) 09:52, 24 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

'Death' is final. Rabbi Jesus son of Joseph miraculously survived his Crucifixion - the Messiah/Christ had a near-death experience. 2603:3020:BF5:4000:90C:BE82:69D0:3A2C (talk) 16:59, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I searched the book on Google, it does not seem to exist. No luck either for the names of the author + the word Bible. tgeorgescu (talk) 06:25, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

The icon shown does not depict the life of Christ

edit

An icon is shown at the top of this article, with a caption indicating that it's an icon of the life of Christ. In fact, it's an icon of the Church of Christ -- as can be seen from the Slavonic title at the top of the icon and the English name of the jpeg file itself. The vignettes within the icon appear to show events in the lives of important saints, including several who were crucified upside down. Christ was of course not crucified upside down or multiple times. The resolution of the image is unfortunately too low to read the Slavonic captions on the vignettes. Bottom line, it's a fine icon, but clearly doesn't depict the life of Christ. I would suggest replacing it with the following file: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cycle_of_icons_depicting_the_life_of_Jesus,_Arkhangelsk.jpg Ps8v9 (talk) 01:55, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Agreed on the old one, which has been there for years. I have replaced it with a large multi-scene Passion which expand very well. Johnbod (talk) 02:14, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
