Incorrect assertion ignores the hundreds of Black men who played basketball at HBCUs in the 1920s and 30s See the CIAA Bulletins for the names of the Black men at 10+ HBCUs in the South who played basketball before Cooper was born.
editThis statement is incorrect: "He was the first African-American to play in a college basketball game south of the Mason-Dixon line"
I propose deleting this sentence or modifying it so that it is accurate.
