Excellent work

glad someone finally cleared up the Empire / Soviet / Federation hodge-podge. Kevlar67 20:58, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm sorry, but I disagree. I wanted to propose that Russian Empire, Soviet Union, and Russian Federation are simply different eras in the history of Russia and that a common thread of cinematic trends flows through them, making the seperation into seperate articles extremely artificial. Also, the article on the Soviet Union mentions a dubious assortment of films while not mentioning many important trends and films that exemplified these trends. Furthermore, the Soviet article tends to downplay the sheer volume of films that was made in any given era (less than in the USA, Japan, France, or other film "superpowers", but still a large amount, especially compared to some nations like China whose film histories are chronicled in more detail on Wikipedia than Soviet film).--128.119.25.125 (talk) 21:29, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Neutrality

I was bold and removed the non-neutral line which stated that "Russian cinema widely suffered under the Soviet rule" and that "after the fall of the soviet system it would become internationally recognized again". This is not only non-neutral but factually incorrect since soviet films are indeed recognized internationally. ZealotKommunizma (talk) 23:32, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey does Russia theaters have a movie rating system like they do in the US and other countries? I looked all over the internet but I couldn't find any. Maybe I didn't look good enough? Do y'all know?? Where could I find out? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.163.93.183 (talk) 20:37, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

NPOV

The collapse of the Soviet Union brought a virtual end to quality cinema in Russia and the other republics.

The new Russian cinema is more profit-oriented, with artistic needs taking a backseat to more immediate desires.

The above does not belong in an encyclopedia. Madhava 1947 (talk) 22:21, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

I have removed that sentence, and requested other citations. It looks like the article has been tagged since January 2007. Should we perhaps just remove the entire section? --Elonka 04:09, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
