  • i would like to know what can be used in the place of Citron when cooking.

"the juice of the citron is high in vitamin C" ?! A citron has little to no juice, the bulk of the fruit being pith. (Certainly, the pith is indeed, very high in Vitamin C.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.125.207.182 (talk) 04:32, 5 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

England?

edit

"Candying is done mainly in England, France and the United States" - does this actually MEAN "England" specifically, or is it just the careless use of the word when "United Kingdom" is meant? 86.132.138.205 16:30, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dubious

edit

"In Swedish the citron is named Suckatcitron, - the citron of Succoth"

This is probably just a coincidence (or a folk etymology). According to the entry suckat (succade) in the etymological dictionary of the Swedish Academy (SAOB) the word is loanword from Italian where the word zuccata means candied pumpkin (zucca). The word zucca, in its turn, is connected to an Indo-european root meaning "dry". /78.69.59.235 (talk) 20:40, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

See the references at Succade, that this word too, was possibly derived from it's Jewish ritual use. Personnaly, I think that this is not right, but the explanation fits still better for the Swedish name.Critisizer (talk) 19:00, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Seems far-fetched to me. At least the Academy begs to differ, and they are supposed to be the authority on Swedish language, aren't they?. /78.69.59.235 (talk) 14:23, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ludicrous Contradiction

edit

The first section, the summary prior to the ToC, states the etymology of the name has nothing to do with medicine. The first section after the ToC explains how and why the fruit's use was mainly medicinal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leegee23 (talkcontribs) 10:10, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lemon

edit

The lemon is a hybrid of the citron and bitter orange (which is itself a hybrid of pummelo and the mandarin). Here is the paper- http://journal.ashspublications.org/content/126/3/309.full.pdf.137.111.13.167 (talk) 02:29, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

edible?

edit

This is being sold under the name Cedrat here in Montreal in fruit stores, as edible. One store has one at the checkout, cut open, and you can have a piece. Is there an edible variety specifically called 'cedrat' (the personnel called it cedrat in French and English)? --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 15:44, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Perfumery section largely irrelevant (and copyvio)

edit

The Perfumery section that is listed here reads like a cut and paste from the perfume maker's advertising flyer, even includes a capsule summary of what Citron is, in an Encyclopedia entry about citron! I belive that this section should be deleted outright. Any opposed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.65.60.154 (talk) 17:48, 7 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, it is clearly pasted in without regard for copyright statements or for relevance. See next section. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 15:15, 9 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Contradiction in botanical description

edit

There is the statement "The flowers are generally unisexual providing self-pollination..." under "Plant" in "Description and Variation". This is contradictory. Unisexual flowers have either male or female parts but not both, and self pollination of course requires both. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.56.145.198 (talk) 02:34, 19 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I removed the statement. Thanks for pointing this out! Mz7 (talk) 02:40, 19 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Citron != Yuzu/Yuja?

edit

The reference to Koreans' culinary use of "citron" is a bit confusing. Koreans commonly drink a hot beverage made with honey and citrus fruit preserves called yujacha. In Korea, it's often labeled in English as "citron tea," but that may be a bad translation or maybe even just marketing (although U.S. ingredient labels for the stuff also call it citron). According to Wikipedia, the fruit in yujacha (yuzu) is suspected to be a hybrid of two other citrus fruits and neither of them are citron. The Korean and Japanese translations for citron do not point to the fruit in yujacha either. I'm inclined to think the reference to Korean yujacha should be removed on this page because this article isn't about yuja/yuzu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.111.5.136 (talk) 23:46, 24 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
