New article

I have created this article, for what is a very significant type of school in England and Wales, using content from the Comprehensive school article and have trimmed back some of the content on that article, which covers similar schools around the world. Religion

Thanks for the new article. Can you please make clear whether comprehensive schools in England/Wales are allowed to restrict entry based on religion of the student and his/her family? My understanding is that a significant number of state funded schools are associated with particular religions.DouglasHeld (talk) 22:56, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

References and POVs

It has been ten years since Peters unreferenced essay was placed here- and ten years since anyone tried to sort it out. Nothing refers to developments after 1988. There is not even a link to any notable ILEA giants- such as Kidbrooke School, Fortismere School, Crown Woods. No mention of the Stantonbury Campus What if we give this 14 days and delete the unreferenced text and startover just using WP:RS?--ClemRutter (talk) 22:44, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Proposed move to Comprehensive schools in England

Education in England and Wales is entirely separate, with education fully devolved in Wales. It doesn't really make sense for this article to remain as it is, particularly with more divergence of education structure in Wales since e.g School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013, Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Act 2021 etc.

The UK Government's own website under "Types of school" only mentions England: https://www.gov.uk/types-of-school

In the body of the text of the article (following intro), Wales is mentioned only once in passing and so there would be very minimal editing needed.

Comment, I don't think the devolution of education is really relevant here as Wales still has these schools and they were introduced alongside England at the same time. The UK Gov as you say manage only England's education so makes sense for their website to focus on that. While yes the differing curriculum's have diverged, tbh is that even really relevant here or in as much detail? Plus an added section on Wales' curriculum can easily address that.

Understand the overall concerns with anglo-centricity here, which seems to have been greatly made even more England-focused recently. The version before the additions (by now banned users) seems to be less weighted to England-only (due to overall less content and focusing pre-devolution), but still such.

I prefer Wales is expanded here, but if this article is to discuss a lot of (possibly unneeded) background context, in which there may not be many Wales sources, then a move could be justified. But not convinced by the main argument of devolution, right now.

As it duplicates Comprehensive school somewhat, wonder if the old merger proposal should be raised again? Otherwise the content there should be moved to this article. DankJae 11:34, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
