OK, the Daikatana thing is NPOV. I challenge you to find any human being who would call the game good, enjoyable, or fun. I DARE YOU! --Vonguard, 05:00, 18 September 2004

I added the end of life section. feel free to clean it up, although it is already pretty clean... I might add more to the Controversy section about CGW discontinuing review scores. --66.25.87.53, 05:32, 3 August 2006

CGW Archive

edit

The CGW Archive has gone missing and I can't find a new location or even evidence of people talking about it. Anyone know what happened? Tut21 16:29, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are still torrents of it out there. Search the various torrent index sites. As to why the FileFront site would disappear; I have no idea... And Jeff Green never replies to me so who the hell knows, lol. --Swaaye 18:59, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mature magazine

edit

Should it be mentioned that the magazine is intended for mature audiences or better, young adults? They sell and advertise Adult games, the advertisements sometimes contain sex, profanity and violence. The reviews cover ESRB M rated games as well. Wings10 17:32, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps. They shifted away from adult ads almost entirely in the late '90s though. And they couldn't be a games magazine and ignore M-rated games. Many of the biggest hits are M-rated.--Swaaye 01:02, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
When you say "intended for mature audiences", it sounds like porn, and that's just silly. By those standards, almost all movie and entertainment mags would have to be "intended for mature audiences". If you're old enough to read at a high school level (for CGW), you've already seen far worse. Heck, mags for tweens show more bikinis in one edition than CGW did in its entire history. Let's not over-exaggerate terms until they become meaningless. Generally, publications should be rated Mature if they specifically target that audience, not if they're just covering everything. --RedKnight7 (talk) 14:33, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

PC gaming world

edit

Ziff Davis had a very popular magazine called PC Gaming World. Is this related to "Computer Gaming World"? PC gaming world is mentioned nowhere on wikipedia it seems.... Here is an example cover: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46650453/PCGW/pcgw-42.JPG — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.67.69.8 (talk) 16:51, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

In the UK, Computer Gaming World was renamed as PC Gaming World. This was also mentioned in the letters/correspondence section of the magazine where a number of readers bought the magazine thinking that more than just PCs were covered in terms of "Computers", i.e. games consoles, arcades, etc.

CGW UK and Spanish CGW

edit

Why are these two not even mentioned? CGW UK seems to have started with issue 1/97 and probably(!) ended the same year in july. Spanish CGW started with 12/95 and ran atleast until 11/96. 93.215.43.135 (talk) 09:00, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've never heard of these, but then, I'm in the U.S. and just a simple subscriber and occasional writer. Why not ask at the CGW Museum? (In the external links) It's also not represented there, I don't think. But it sounds like you'd probably want them to be.

Last time I asked about Spanish CGW there and posted some pages from one issue, they banned me...
They were already informed about the UK CGW and will hopefully scan them soon. I only own issue 1,2,3,4,10 of spanish CGW and the cover of 12 plus some pages. 87.169.245.57 (talk) 20:50, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry to hear about that. My impression is that the museum is a small operation, maybe just a work of love by one person for practical purposes... I'm just very happy it's there! FWIW I have a bunch of 1980s Play-By-Mail mags that I'd like to get into a digital repository, and I can't find any takers. Sounds like the Spanish CGW is in the same position. I hope the museum changes its tune some day, or someone else can post them.
If you know much of the history behind the UK and Spanish versions, you could start section(s) on the CGW page. If it's for real, you shouldn't think people are trying to suppress it. Folks probably just haven't gotten around to writing about it, even though they'd like to see something. To me, even the CGW page itself is pretty short, considering how big it once loomed in the lives of PC gamers. Were your other versions part of the CGW legacy (made by Ziff-Davis, etc.)? --RedKnight7 (talk) 02:35, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm already scanning and uploading those mags to my own website KultCDs[DOT]com. I've scanned about 130 magazines myself (most of them (German) Power Play magazines) and ripped a few hundred magazine CDs. Sadly, the hoster told me at some point that they can't keep that much data, so the CDs moved to archive org. Jason Scott did even bother to ask if he can take my magazines, too. He just did it and doesn't credit me or anything... SO don'T worry, the CGW mags (along with some others) will appear online, soon. 87.169.251.124 (talk) 20:18, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
On the one hand, that's pretty sad. It's so easy to credit someone. But at least they are stored somewhere now, and won't be lost. Maybe Archive.org will have room for my play-by-mail mags?
For what it's worth, I did a lot of deep articles on an unofficial but popular wiki for the game Sins of a Solar Empire (SoaSE). Then one day, that wiki was simply gone (URL inoperable) and everything had been copied to some other wiki in a sloppy fashion that mangled a lot of my comprehensive articles. But no one on the new wiki, or at the official forum for SoaSE, seemed to know or care how or why it happened. It had been a work of love for weeks... sigh. Oh well, there are dozens of other wikis that weren't so rude. --RedKnight7 (talk) 14:50, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Additional citations for verification - progress

edit

The article since 2008 has been tagged as needing "additional citations for verification". Although that is still the case as of mid-2017, the problem is less acute, as in 2014 I added several new references (mostly from The New York Times) to support existing content of the article. I just wanted to note that progress has been made since the article was tagged. I hope others will also be able to contribute further to keep improving the article. Thank you.(talk) user:Al83tito 20:30, 04 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

...and the improvement continues with other users and myself having contributed more references and in-line citations.(talk) user:Al83tito 17:10, 10 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
