Incorrect Website URL for College Partially Addressed

edit

In the article's external links section, www.cottoncollege.org was listed as the College's web site. But that is incorrect; as of today's date, 8 March 2009, www.cottoncollege.org currently points only to an automatically-generated advertising page that includes no information at all about Cotton College. As of today's date, a "whois" lookup shows www.cottoncollege.org is owned by an American firm, "Snapnames, Inc.", a company that specializes in buying up expiring domain names with the intention of reselling them for a profit. Perhaps the College once owned www.cottoncollege.org, but allowed it to expire? Anyway, I undertook a fairly comprehensive web search on Cotton College, including using Google India, to try to track down a functioning official URL for the College. I did find that the College is still very much in active operation, incidentally, but since I couldn't find the correct URL for the College I deleted the broken URL, www.cottoncollege.org from the article.

At a site about colleges in India, I also found this contact information: Cotton College, Panbazar Guwahati - 781001, Assam, India, Ph : 0361-2608074, 0361-2510667. But since I haven't verified this information independently, I didn't add it to the article. If someone can (1) Provide the correct/working/verified/official web site URL for the College, (2) Verify the postal address and telephone numbers for the College, and (3) Add this information to the article, we'd all be grateful. - Ohiostandard (talk) 17:14, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would still call that a dead link, so I have reformatted it as such. – ukexpat (talk) 00:52, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have added a url parameter [1] which gives a link to archived versions in the Internet Archive. Google's cache shows the url had content on 29 January 2009. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:14, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Ukexpat and PrimeHunter. Others please note that there's a good help desk thread on what was done about this broken link, one that's also more widely applicable to fixing broken links in general. - Ohiostandard (talk) 21:10, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
