A fact from Dane Hansen appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 8 February 2024 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Dane Hansen started a road-construction business with about 100 mules that he was unable to sell to the US Army after World War I ended?

... that Dane Hansen started a road construction business with about 100 mules he was unable to sell to the US Army after World War I ended? Source: [1] ("Operating the mule supply operations successfully until the war ended in 1918, Hansen found himself left with nearly one hundred mules. Solving a problem with a creative solution, Hansen established a road construction business using the mules to pull the grading and paving equipment."), [2] ("Suddenly the war was over, and Dane Hansen had more than 100 mules with no market for them.")
ALT1: ... that Dane Hansen, a personal friend of Dwight D. Eisenhower, would only work in politics if he wasn't paid for it? Source: [3] ("He commented, I’ll take any political job if there’s no pay in it. My services are always free.")
Comment: Per note [a] on the article, sources vary a bit on the number of mules he had left, so I went with "about 100" for the hook. Thanks for the time and effort in reviewing this!
Overall: Hey Bsoyka, thanks for writing this article! I have concerns about the neutrality of § Generosity; the header is already less than ideal, but calling Hansen a "generous benefactor" is not acceptable. As for the hooks, I prefer ALT0, but recommend that "mules" is unlinked per MOS:OVERLINK. The phrasing of "about 100" to allude to the conflicting sources sounds good to me. I don't see any problems apart from those. Since this is my first review at DYK, I'd prefer a second opinion before putting the stamp on this. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:34, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@TechnoSquirrel69: Thanks for the review! I totally agree with your concerns, and I've merged the content from the "Generosity" section into "Death and legacy" while attempting to use more neutral language—let me know your thoughts there. I've also unlinked mules in the hook. Bsoyka (t • c • g) 22:04, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bsoyka and TechnoSquirrel69: I see some issues with WP:CLOP here. Earwig returns 24% similarity, and while some of that is proper titles and stuff that can't be reworded, there are some bits that probably can be reworded, for example ...one of the state's largest independent oil producers.QueenofHearts22:29, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
